LEWIS JAMES HUNTSUCKER, JR. Lewis James Huntsucker, Jr., 89, Independence, Mo., passed away Thursday, December 5, 2013, surrounded by family. Lewis was born Aug. 29, 1924, in Atherton, Mo., the son of Lewis James and Minnie Lee (Herron) Huntsucker, Sr. He was a U.S. Army

. Lewis retired as Captain in 1983 from the Independence Missouri Fire Department. He was a longtime member of Six Mile Baptist Church and recently attended Eastside Baptist Church. Lewis enjoyed gardening, hunting, fishing, and camping with the family. Lewis is survived by his loving wife, Barbara Huntsucker of 65 years; daughter, Connie Baker; sons, Clifford Huntsucker and wife Jeanette, and Louie Huntsucker; grandchildren, Brandon Baker and wife Elizabeth, Brad Baker and wife Kristi, and Lucas Huntsucker and wife Angel; great grandchildren, Camryn and Emilie Huntsucker, Austin, Taylor, Nila, Zoe and Ronan Baker; sisters, Minnie Firkins, Inez Simpson and Betty Robertson; and numerous nieces, nephews, and family. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Edwin, Elwood, Carl, Tom, Harvey, and David; and his parents. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 6, at Carson-Speaks Chapel, 1501 W. Lexington Ave., Independence, MO 64052. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, at Carson-Speaks Chapel. Burial will follow at New Salem Cemetery.
