Nancy Dora Burk, of Kansas City, MO, beloved mother and aunt, fashion model, artist, art studio owner, courier service owner, building owner, real estate agent, apartment manager and gentle soul, passed away Friday, May 23, 2014, at the age of 78 after a battle with breast cancer. She was preceded in death by her mother, Rachel Octavia (Turnage) Vanderslice; father, Warren Bozzel Vanderslice; and one of her heroes, her brother, Donald Vanderslice. Nancy was a graduate of Fayetteville High School (AR) and the Kansas City Art Institute. She married Lyle Burk, her husband of 37 years, in 1957. She was known for being a steadfast beacon of honesty and fairness. Nancy was the strongest of supporters for her family and friends during difficult times, and she could always be counted on for kindness, encouragement and a helping hand. Nancy is survived by Lyle Burk, with whom she remained very close; her sons, Gordon and Brian Burk; her sister, Sylvia (Vanderslice) Gargus; and her brother, David Vanderslice; and her many nephews and nieces. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation to the American Breast Cancer Society. A memorial service will be held for Nancy in the chapel at Asbury Methodist Church, 5400 W 75th St, Prairie Village, KS 66208, on Saturday June 21, 2014 at 3 p.m.
