DR. PAUL E. RORVIG

Dr. Paul E. Rorvig, Columbia, Mo., passed away at home with his family Tuesday, September 24, 2013. Dr. Rorvig was born Jan. 9, 1952, in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada, to Edward C. and Frances M. Rorvig. He lived in Canada until his family moved to Boonville, Mo., in 1962. After graduating from Boonville High School, Paul attended Missouri State University to pursue a career in teaching and to play basketball. He earned his Master's and Ph.D. in History from the University of Missouri- Columbia. Dr. Rorvig's high school teaching career began in Lebanon, Mo., then in Carrollton, Mo. His first college teaching position was at Central Methodist University. He was presently a professor of social studies at the University of Central Missouri where he had been teaching for the past 13 years. A memorial service for Dr. Rorvig will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 28, at the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), 101 N. 10th St., Columbia. Family that Dr. Rorvig has loved and lived with are wife, Vickie of the home, daughters, Anna Rorvig and Kaela Rorvig of Columbia, sister, Suzanne Caldarello of Columbia, brother, Pete and wife Bonnie of Odessa, Mo., mother-in-law, Evelyn Samp of Jacksonville, Mo., and many sister and brother-in-laws, nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind many friends, students, and colleagues that he loved and respected. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the UCM Foundation with Dr. Paul Rorvig's name in the memo. The scholarship in his name will be granted to a university senior history education major to assist with their student teaching expenses.
