The Sisters of Charity of Leavenworth mourn the loss of Sister Rose Marie Catudal, 87, who died Thursday, Feb. 20, 2014, in Ross Hall at the Mother House, Leavenworth, Kan. Rose Marie Catudal was born Feb. 26, 1926 in Plainville, Kan., the oldest of five children born to Dr. Joseph E. and Rose Wenzel Catudal. She graduated from Sacred Heart Grade School, Plainville, and St. Mary's Academy, Leavenworth. She entered the religious community of the Sisters of Charity of Leavenworth on Aug. 14, 1946, and, as Sister Mary Norbert, made her profession of vows on Aug. 15, 1948. She later returned to the use of her baptismal name and was known as Sister Rose Marie. Sister Rose Marie taught for eight years at the elementary level, and 40 years at the secondary level. She received a BS in Education from the University of Saint Mary, Leavenworth, and a MS in Biology from the University of Notre Dame, South Bend. Before she retired in 1996, Sister Rose Marie spent 24 years at St. Pius X High School in Kansas City, Mo., where she taught biology, served as registrar, and did the student scheduling. After returning to the Mother House, Sister Rose Marie worked in the Mother House Archives, and enjoyed her hobbies of stamp collecting, quilling, and rosary making. Survivors include nieces, nephews, and her SCL Community. A vigil will be held at 7 p.m. Monday, Feb. 24, in Ross Chapel of the Sisters of Charity Mother House in Leavenworth, where friends may call after 4 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Ross Chapel at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 25. Interment will follow in Mount Olivet Cemetery on the Mother House grounds. Davis Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
