WILLIAM P. BURGMAN Jr.(1938 - 2013)

William ("Bill") P. Burgman, Jr., passed away October 31, 2013, at his home. Bill was born Aug. 4, 1938, in Chicago, Ill., to Bill and Evelyn Burgman (both deceased). Bill graduated from Leo High School (Chicago) in 1957, and enlisted in the Army. Bill won an appointment to the United States Military Academy, West Point, New York. While serving in the Corps of Cadets, Bill received a serious head injury while playing football for the Academy and was unable to continue his service. Upon receiving an honorable discharge from the Army, Bill returned to his hometown. Bill accepted a management position with The Kroger Co., embarking on what would become a successful career in the grocery industry. He quickly advanced his career as a regional sales manager. Over the years, Bill relocated his family from Chicago to Syracuse, Detroit, and Kansas City, as his career continued to advance (working for the Sara Lee Corporation, R.J Reynolds, and ITT Continental Baking Company/Del Monte). Despite leaving his hometown in 1972, Bill remained a true "Chicagoian" throughout his life - continuing to be a "die hard" fan of the Cubs, Bears, Bulls and Blackhawks. In addition to his family, Bill's passion was playing golf (a proud 2 time member of the "hole-in-one club"!). Bill is survived by his wife of 19 years, Betty; daughters, Denise Dobson (Glenn), Dianne Mercurio (Steve), Donna McElhinney, Dawn Walters (Will), and G. Kelle Bull (Randy); grandchildren, Anthony, Brea, Justin, Danielle, Megan, Colton, Dylan, Grant, Jonathan, Hannah, Ryan and Reese; his brothers, Jon (Char) and Dennis; and four nieces and two nephews. Visitation will be at 9:15 a.m. Monday, Nov. 4, at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 11300 W 103rd St. Overland Park, Kan., with a Funeral Mass held at 10 a.m. thereafter.
