Oct. 22, 1928 - March 2, 2013 William Ralph Mills, loving husband, father and brother died peacefully on March 2, 2013. Bill was born to Aileene Arnold Mills and William Nuel Mills in Kansas City, Mo. He attended Faxon School and graduated from Paseo High School. Bill was a free spirit who loved people, especially his wife of over 50 years, Betty Virginia Brus, who was a Paseo High School classmate. Betty predeceased Bill in January of 2006. Bill's independent streak first asserted itself in the adult world when, at 17 in 1946, he joined the Army
. He served three years, much of that time as a control tower operator and participant in the Berlin airlift in the Wiesbaden tower. Attesting to the changes in the world since Bill started out, the Air Force was then part of the Army. When Bill began civilian life upon his return to the States, the Fiat he bought and shipped back from Europe was the subject of a front-page story in the Kansas City Star. After Bill and Betty married, he began a life-long career in banking. He was an officer in various banks in greater Kansas City, Sedalia and Columbia. Over the span of his career, he graduated from the American Institute of Banking at Louisiana State University
. He maintained a keen interest in the operation of unit banks and was, until a few years, ago, a consultant with Swords Associates in Kansas City. Bill was an active member of the Rotary Club
. Bill is survived by his son, Mark Mills of Lenexa, Kan., his sister, Betty Zwilling of Overland Park, Kan. and his brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Anita Mills of Kentfield, Calif. At his request no services will be held.
