WILLIE "SARGE" TOWNSEND JR. Willie "Sarge" Townsend, Jr., 93, passed away Saturday, June 28, 2014, at Providence Medical Center. The funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 9, at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 2203 Parallel Pkwy, KCK. Burial in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, July 8, at Skradski Funeral Home, 340 N. Sixth St., KCK. The family suggests donations to Blessed Sacrament Church or to the VFW. Willie Jr., oldest of seven children, was born to Willie Sr. and Ella Mae (Morton) Townsend in Indianola, Miss., on Oct. 24, 1920. Willie was a former member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. He was an Army/Air Force WWII veteran. When he started his restaurant business on 12th and State Avenue he penned the name "Sarge's Tacos" (stemming from his years serving in the military). He worked from 1965 to 1993, retiring in 1993 to care for his wife, Febe. Then in 1998 he started all over again as a deliveryman working for his daughter at her Medicine Shop. Willie was an artist, inventor, entrepreneur, but most of all a loving brother, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Family to him was the most important from beginning to end. Preceding him in death were his parents; wife, Febe; infant brother, Floyd and brother, Hildred Townsend; sons, Michael H. and William "Jr." Townsend; daughters, Cecilia D. Townsend and Lucy S. Peeler. She leaves behind her loving daughters, Rita (Bruce) Davis and Anna Marie (Ken) Moyer; and sons, Marketio, Charles (Beth), Ricky, Daniel, and John Townsend; 18 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren; sisters, Marian Parker and Alphonse Parker and Hattie (Hayward) Spears; and one brother, Sylvester (Ramona) Townsend, many cousins, nieces and nephews. One last word from Willie, "Don't you give me that "catface." Arr.: Skradski Funeral Home, KCK, (913) 371-1404. www.skradskifh-kc.com
