Frances Houghton Obituary

HOUGHTON Frances Therese (Fran) Houghton, 83, of Maryville, MO, passed away unexpectedly Sunday, March 18, 2012 at her home. Fran was born on July 16, 1929 in St. Joseph, MO to Theodore and Senka (Lapychurch) Solonycze. She was a Benton High School graduate and later received her Associates Degree in St. Joseph. Fran was a resident of Maryville since 1959, and was the co-owner and business manager of the former Houghton's Nodaway Drug Store. She was a member of the St. Gregory's Barbarigo Catholic Church, the Maryville Country Club, was on the board of the Maryville Housing Authority, and had helped and volunteered with the Giving Tree at the St. Francis Hospital, all of Maryville. Fran was preceded in death by her parents; her husband F.B. Houghton, Jr. on September 25, 2009; brother, Bill Solonycze; 3 sisters, Mary Schall, and Ann Spillman, and Catherine Holtzclaw. Survivors include her son, Kevin and wife Megan Houghton, Overland Park, KS; 3 grandchildren, Tyler Houghton, Lauren Houghton, and Jeanine Houghton, all of Overland Park, KS; brother, John and wife Dixie Solonycze, St. Joseph, MO; sister, Cecelia and husband Keith Ashton, Ottawa Ontario, Canada; 3 nephews, and 2 nieces. The Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 AM Friday, March 23, 2012 at the St. Gregory's Barbarigo Catholic Church, with burial in the Oak Hill Cemetery, both of Maryville. The family and parish prayer service and rosary will be at 6:00 PM Thursday, March 22, 2012 at the Bram-Danfelt Funeral Home, the visitation will follow until 8:00 PM.
