NANCY CONLEY Obituary

NANCY D. (AS IN DOG) CONLEY Nancy D. Conley, waited patiently for the Lord. He inclined and heard her cry. She's living like it's her last night on earth; found what she was looking for; ran like a river ran to the sea; she is running to stand still; walked on; you don't see her but you will; she'll see you again when the stars fall from the sky and the moon has turned red; she's packing a suitcase for a place, none of us has been, a place that has to be believed, to be seen. It's a beautiful day, don't let it slip away, ceased to breathe, will no longer be singing songs that pop into her head, and can finally stay focused. She will no longer have to get up early, do laundry, clean, remember to get her dry cleaning, or do the dishes, won't be yelling squirrel. Nancy had the longest game of Space Invaders with cancer and cancer had the high score. She kept her faith, remained positive, goofy and a dork until the very last breath. Nancy was born March 31, 1961, in Kansas City, Mo., to Paul Alfred Conley and Mary Joan (McDonald), she passed on May 14, 2016. A reception and gathering honoring her family and friends (her life wouldn't have been anything without them) will be held Thursday, May 19, from 6 to 8 p.m., at McGilley State Line Chapel. Yes, you will have to listen to some of the CD's she made of her most favorite songs during this time. . . (It will be more than U2 people.) Mass of Christian Burial will be held, Friday, May 20, at 11 a.m. at Cure of Ars Catholic Church, 9401 Mission Road, Leawood, KS 66206. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to our National Parks System, Little Sisters of the Poor, or your local liquor store. If by chance you know all the quoted U2 songs in this, check with Kevin and you will win Nancy's life time collection of all things U2 and the totes are included. Pick up only, sorry no delivery. She loved; family, friends, life, nature, National and State parks (okay all parks) pets, animals, a mole digging in a hole, birds, zoos, music, camping, bike riding and sitting by the fire with Kevin. Being an all around amateur naturalist and geek. She loved the light-brite she got for Christmas but never got her Udo. Be thankful that she didn't, if she had all of you would have gotten a bunch of stupid silk screened crap from her. She hated gum smacking, when someone didn't use their turn signals while driving, male urinals, and cabinet doors being left open. She is preceded in death by Theodore Roosevelt, Alfred Hitchcock, Rod Sterling, Richard Nixon, Johnny Cash and anyone not breathing. Survivors include everyone still breathing; her man friend, love of her life, best friend, the person who always made her smile, and who was always there for her, Kevin Cullen (who will be having the biggest garage sale ever to get rid of all her stuff). No worries, every sale will include a tote to take your new crap home in). Her favorite siblings, Gary (Esther), Bruce (Patti), Carol (Mike), Diane (Mac), Paula, Barry (Kardi); her aunt and uncle, George and Rosalie Schweiger; way too many favorite nieces and nephews to mention and even more favorite cousins. If there is anything you take away from this, please let it be a sense of humor. Life is too short. Work hard, but play hard too! Never miss an opportunity to be nice, pay it forward! Tell the people you love that you love them. Know when you go to bed at night that you have no regrets from the day, because it could be your last. Famous last words "It's a Cookbook!" I am so sorry for your loss. You are in my prayers.

May 24, 2016

We first met Nancy in early 2015 at a time of huge family sorrow. She assisted us in making funeral arrangements in a most caring and professional way. Even more importantly, her friendliness, compassion, and humor helped us thru a very difficult time. She will be missed and remembered, and we extend our sincere sympathies and condolences to family and friends. Ken and Jo Kollar

I am owner of Luther Florists and my meeting of Nancy was unusual. I was delivering flowers one morning and Nancy was standing near two arrangements delivered by an "unnamed florist". She said something about how disappointed the family would be and that the other florist said they could not get there to fix anything. I told her I was a designer and I would be glad to do what I could to re-do them. She was so grateful and it only took me a few minutes to create one decent looking arrangement presentable for the service. From that time forward we were friends. She gave me her cell and I gave her mine. She welcomed me to call if she was not there and I needed to make a delivery--I never took her up on that offer but it was very kind of her. Nancy did countless favors for us when we had a special situations. She was always so cheerful and whenever I delivered there, I looked for her to say "Hello". She was a very special person and I know she will be missed by her co-workers and her family. See you in Heaven, Nancy!

Nancy and I worked together at Horst Graphics. Nancy's positive nature was the thing I most from that time.

Nancy was getting handed some tough blows in her personal life at that time, but she always looked on the bright side. She would always greet everyone who walked through the door with a big smile and a little joke.

I saw her a few times since then. Once again, always smiling. Wish I would have seen her more. Very glad she found Kevin.

As far as U2. At that time, she was always trying to calculate when they would reach "Classic Rock" status, so they would be played on 101 the FOX.

Well, she has the ultimate backstage pass now. Enjoy the show, Nancy.

Dear Nancy,
When I look at you, I see the smile on your face,
I realize then, that you have that special grace.
And as I reflect on what you have done,
I know then, we all have won.
With all the people's lives you have touched,
I know why it is that I love you so much.
Your kindness, your compassion and such a big heart,
for me and all others it will be hard to part.
We all must leave and say our goodbye,
for me I know that my heart will cry.
Thank you for filling my life with your gracious love,
for I know you will be smiling on me from above.
I thank God for the time we have had,
I will try not be too awfully mad.
For he has given us all a special gift of you,
and we are all a better person, just because of you.
Please remember there is no final goodbye,
because I'll see you again one day, above the big blue sky.

With all my love,
Your Favorite Cousin

Nancy was my Sixth grade girlfriend. I did not know her much past the Sixth grade but back then she was a very sweet girl and to my in-experienced face a very good kisser.
May God bless and keep you.

My sister's and I met Nancy this past September when she assisted us with our mother's funeral arrangements. She was warm and caring at a very difficult time; she sent us a beautiful e-mail supporting and complimenting us on the choices we made. Our love and prayers go out to her family.

Nancy and I were really good friends in high school at Shaenee Mission West, and had so much fun together! We lost touch over the years, but watching the photos brought back so many memories! It made me happy to see that there was a photo of us together in her photo gallery, the one on Santas lap. I remember Nancy's smile, and all the silly good times we shared. I will always treasure her friendship, she was a very special and kind person. I am so sorry for your loss of Nancy. I can only imagine how much she'll be missed by all.

We met Nancy at McGilley she handled the arrangements for my Sister Audrey S Klein in January this year. She was terrific at her job and made everything so easy for the family. She will be missed by all, our deepest sympathy to her family! Heaven knows they have a keeper for sure, she will keep everyone busy.

I didn't know Nancy, but I am also a U2 fan, who often bursts into song (not just U2), and I'd like to think that makes us friends and sisters-of-a-sort. My condolences on your loss of someone who must have been a really awesome woman. Thank God and Bono for memories.

My coworkers on Wednesday 5/18 were talking about this obituary that was like none they had ever read before. They were telling the rest of our staff to check it out because it was so humorous. Thank you Nancy and Kevin for the wonderful obituary memorializing Nancy's life. You have inspired many at my office.

Loved the warmth of this woman whom we came to know! She coordinated the funeral home preparations for my mother, sister and nephew over these past 2.5 years. She was genuine, compassionate and very caring. She went out of her way to make sure our family members were taken care of. Very personable and empathetic. We were shocked to know she had passed this week and never knew she had cancer. For her, it wasn't all about her, but for those she was responsible for. I know Nancy is singing for the Lord and her joy is indescribable I'm sure. Lord, your servant Nancy has done well here on earth. God bless her family during this difficult time.

May 19, 2016

Nancy was indeed a kind and committed friend and servant of all the families that she had the privilege of assisting at time of need.

She will be enormously missed by all of us that knew her. Nancy's wit and her heart tell her life story. We will remember her, miss her and honor the time we could spend with her as friend and co-workers. Keep the Angels laughing, Nancy.

With Warmest Regards,

In early April, Nancy helped us plan a burial for my mother-in-law and we didn't even know at that time that she was ill. With her expert help, we were able to give our loved one a beautiful ceremony and burial, and from that moment on, she became "family." Nancy was one of the most efficient, professional, and personable people we have ever met. She included even the finest of details and we will never forget how much she helped us in our time of need and sadness. She was such an asset to McGilley and an asset to mankind. Thanks again, Nancy, for all you did for our family. You will definitely make heaven a more organized and wonderfully fun place to be! RIP.

I had the great pleasure of seeing Nancy every day when she worked at Horst Graphics. Talking to her was absolutely the highlight of my working day! You had to be ready to laugh and smile because she brought that out in even the saddest Eeyore!
She was an absolute joy in my life and the world needs more people just like Nancy D. (As in Dog) Conley!

To all of Nancy's family, I send my sympathy. She was one of the funniest and sweetest people I had the pleasure to get to know. She brightened every room with her smile and her attitude. The obit was exactly what I would have expected, for her it was perfect. My life is better having known such a wonderful person. Much love to the Conley family.

Nancy was the funeral director for my infant son's funeral almost five years ago. I didn't envy her job-his death was sudden, and we were complete messes-but, she did her job with grace and compassion. Nancy cried with us and put together a memorial service fit for a king. She was truly perfect at her job, and I suspect that she was as perfect at dealing with the living as she was the dead. I know she must leave a big hole where her obviously hilarious presence once was, but I hope that peace is with her family and loved ones as they remember and honor her. I can't even begin to guess at how many lives Nancy has enriched, but I feel so blessed to have been one of them.

May 18, 2016

I always read the obits in the KCStar.....but Nancy's took me to my knees....oh how I wish I would have known her ! I loved the follow up story in the paper today regarding her obit and where she worked......hearing about her was SO uplifting ! Nancy, you dork, RIP !!!!!

My condolences to Kardi McCullough, my co-worker and friend, and to all of Nancy's family. I will be making a donation in Nancy's name to my local liquor store this weekend.

Nancy always put her families first by paying attention to the smallest details. She went above and beyond to make each service she directed "a Celebration of a life well lived." I picture Nancy checking in at Heaven's Gate dragging a large bag of "good deeds" behind her. She inspired many by her servant heart.

Our family was so sad to learn this evening of Nancy's passing. We first met Nancy at McGilley's 2 1/2 years ago during a time of crisis in our lives upon the loss of our dear mama Amparo Bernal. Nancy was kind and patient and so very helpful then, but when we lost our 29 year old son Nathaniel last year, she was truly an angel on Earth! Her gentleness and patience with us through the most difficult days we've ever faced, far exceeded anything we could've imagined. Her continual expressions of compassion and understanding were just what we needed to help us through those initial days of shock, sadness and grief! She was absolutely amazing in every way possible, and we know we couldn't have successfully navigated through his services without her by our side.

She was a stranger to us at the beginning of the process, but treated us as if we were members of her own family or her best friends. She was truly an example of love in action, showing us such genuine care and compassion, which she expressed through her sweet gentle spirit and her servants heart!

We were unaware of her cancer diagnosis. She responded so respectfully and promptly to a request for information by voicemail and email both, just a couple of short weeks ago, never indicating she was struggling with any health issues of her own. Her recent responsiveness and continued dedication to our family is another shining example of her professionalism and passion for serving others!

We will always remember her goodness and incredible faithfulness in serving our family. She was truly a remarkable lady who we know was sent by God to richly bless our lives when we desperately needed her help and guidance.

I'm so sorry for her loss and express sincere condolences on behalf of the entire Bernal family to Nancy's family. We will never ever forget her, but will remember her fondly always and forever!

Nancy was a "blessing" to my family when we had to plan the funeral for my father this past July. I never imagined that going through the loss of my father and planning his funeral along with my family could be a pleasant experience, but it was and that was because of Nancy. She made it bearable and we even had a lot of laughs. Nancy felt like she was part of our family by the time we left that day and we wanted her to stay even for the funeral lunch. I am very sad of hearing of her passing tonight, but know that she has received a great crown in Heaven for all the love and care that she gave to so many. I also would like to think that she is now talking to my father in Heaven and sharing with him the story of that day that we came to her at McGilley's to plan his funeral. Such a wonderful, warm and caring person she was and may she rest in peace for all of eternity with our Lord. May the Divine Assistance remain always with her and may all the Souls of the faithfully departed rest in peace.

Like many who have left messages here, I did not know Nancy. I read her obituary and was so moved by it. It sounded like she was a person who knew how to live her life. I wish I had known her. I have cut out her obituary from the newspaper and placed in my daily devotional where I can read it over and over. And I will, as suggested, take away from it the humor and reminder of the brevity of life. Thank you. God bless this family as they remember Nancy, who most evidently lit up their lives with her presence.

I did not know Nancy; but after having read her obituary, she was definitely loved by many. Here is a poem I love and and I hope it brings comfort to all that knew & loved Nancy.
_____**All Is Well
Death is nothing at all
I have only slipped away
Into the next room.
I am I, and you are you.
Whatever we were to each other,
That we still are.
Call me by my old familiar name,
Speak to me in the easy way
Which you always used.
Put no difference in your tone,
Wear no forced air of
Solemnity or sorrow.
Laugh as we always laughed
At the little jokes we enjoyed together.
Let my name be ever the household word
That it always was,
Let it be spoken without effect,
Without the trace of a shadow on it.
Life means all that it ever meant.
It is the same as it ever was;
There is unbroken continuity.
Why should I be out of mind
because I am out of sight?
I am waiting for you, for an interval,
Somewhere very near, just around the corner.
All is well. Nothing is hurt; nothing is lost.
One brief moment and all will be as it was before.
How we shall laugh at the trouble of parting,
when we meet again. All is well
by Henry Scott Holland
