Not sure what to say?

April 30, 2011

In 1954 or 1955 Dr. Barelli gave me one of my "Polio Pioneer" shots at Sanford B. Ladd School, where I attended school with his sons. This was the testing of the new Salk vaccine. Dr. Barelli was a very busy man, but he volunteered to give shots to school kids all morning long. I am so happy that he lived a long and healthy life! My thoughts are with his family.

Thinking of you, Miss June~ My Mom remembers the good times in Coffeyville, how you were so friendly to her when she was the new girl in town, your being best friends for years, and your double-dating experiences with your boyfriends (later husbands.) My brother Kevin and I remember visits in earlier days to your house on the Paseo, to the Italian restaurant, and to other places in Mission Hills, etc. I even remember appearing in a Tillies reunion. Sorry I haven't seen you for several years, but I offered to help Mom with this letter. She's thinking of you, and will try to contact you in a few days when things settle down a bit. Dr. Pat had a very full life full of many honors, and will be missed, you should be very proud of him.

To the entire Barelli family - we are so saddened to hear of Pat's death. The connection between the Barelli and Jacobs families certainly goes way back. I loved seeing the pictures from the medical school era, June. My parents treasured their time with you both and your family. The "Edgewood" days were particularly meaningful and enjoyable for all of you, I know. May Pat's memory be for a blessing. Love, Jaime, Gene, and Patty Jacobs Settle

Pat lived a very full life and left the world a better place through his professional contributions and as a wonderful role model. We met Pat and June in recent years at family weddings and always enjoyed conversations with him. We admired the life he led and his accomplishments. Surely he will be missed by family and many in his community.

Dr. Barelli was so good to my father, Matteo Stabile, also from Sambuca,Italy, when he needed his professional care here in the states, that he will always hold a very special place in hearts of the Stabile family. My father and Pat's father were best friends in Sambuca and in Kansas City. As a true doctor ,ultimate professional, and, most importantly, a beautiful person, he exemplified what a true Italiano is made of. My heartfelt sympathy to Sarah and her family. Dr Barelli was the head of a fine family and the father of great kids. I grew up with Tom and John, two very good friends. It always amazed me that Dr Barelli could put up with all of us. He was a man of great patience and he must have loved all of us. He was also a fine surgeon and performed surgery on my wife’s inner ear, greatly improving her hearing. Sandy will always be grateful for that and for his friendship.

Our greatest sympathies go out to the Barelli family. We know you will miss him greatly. Bruce, Sandy and Reid Parker.

Since learning of Pat's death, I have been filled with wonderful Barelli memories. Sundays with the family in the back room at Jennie's, Christmas together, 4th of July fireworks and the wonderful pool parties with all those ENT Residents. I drove by both of our lots yesterday in Pat's honor. The houses are no longer there but the memories are forever. Love to all of you.

I remember Pat as Dr. Barelli. He was always a kind and generous man. He was a great role model for me. He was my introduction to a career in medicine. I recall fondly the Sunday dinners at Jennie's with the family and it was at one of the 4th of July parties at the Barelli pool that I met my wife (she was just 17). The Barelli's have always been an important part of our lives. Thank you. We offer our sympathies to the entire family for your loss.

I was a student nurse at Research Hospital School of Nursing and recall how kind Dr. Barelli was to students in the early 50's. He was truly "one of a kind"

April 22, 2011

My sincere sympathies to the Barelli family. He was my ENT doctor all through my childhood; and while a lot of chilren's memories of doctors can be scary; my memories of Dr. Barelli were how kind & gentle & patient he was with a very scared little kid. God Bless him; and God grant you all His comfort & peace during this difficult time.

Eric called to share the sad news with me yesterday. It makes me so sad to think of Pat not being here for his family. What a pleasure it was to grow up around the corner from you all. Going to Jennie's, the Fourth of July, watching Mike and Eric get into trouble on a weekly basis and being part of your extended family. There will always be a place in my heart for Pat and all of you. What a huge loss for us all. I hope you find some small comfort in all your warmest memories of him. Love to each of you and my sincerest sympathy.

I was a student nurse at St. Joseph's hospital and remember Dr. Barelli. He was the kind and intelligent Doctor. He told us to go to his Mother's restaurant called "Jennies" and she would give us a good Italian dinner with him paying the bill. What a gentle man. We all loved him.
