LAWRENCE EDWARD STEALEY

(MOE) Lawrence Edward Stealey (Moe), 87, passed away at Kansas City Hospice House, May 6, 2011, surrounded by his beloved family. The son of Earle V. and Mary Belle (Smith) Stealey, he was born at home on November 3, 1923, in Kansas City, MO. Moe was a 1943 graduate of South East High School, where he was a star athlete in track and football. He held the record in the 100 yard dash for the state of Missouri in 1942 & 1943. He went to the University of Missouri after the war and played football as a walk-on. Moe served in the Navy from 1943 to 1946 on the LST 454, his ship was involved in 13 invasions. As a Navy Reservist, he was recalled for duty in the Korean Conflict in 1950 on the USS Worchester. Larry was a manufacture sales rep for many lines of sporting goods until he retired in 1992. He loved the Lake of the Ozarks and always had a summer cabin for the family from 1965 until he retired and expanded the cabin into a full time home. He was an enthusiastic Red Coater for the Chiefs when they came to KC in 1963. Since 1950, Larry has been a loyal member of the Village Presbyterian Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, and brother, Bill. He is survived by the love of his life, Frankie, his wife of 63 years; sons, Tim and wife Maureen, Ted and wife Carol-Jo; daughter, Sue Corbett and husband, Bill; eight grandchildren: Amy Valentine (Ian), Timothy Stealey, Sean Stealey, Matthew Stealey (Erin), Jim Stealey, Casey Atkins (Nick), Emily Vielhauer (Tony), and Trey Corbett; six great grandchildren: Tristan, Avery, & Layke Valentine; Landon and Kinlie Stealey; and Owen Vielhauer. Moe loved his family. Friends may call for visitation starting at 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, May 11th, with funeral services immediately following at 3 p.m., at Mt. Moriah Freeman.
