MARY SKINNER Obituary

Born and raised in Kansas City, a graduate of Central High School, class of 1942. Shortly after graduation, she headed for California to pursue her dream of acting/show business. After several years and numerous stage appearances in New York and Chicago she went back west to the Los Angeles Area. While continuing her acting career, she became a member of a comedy team " Dick Clair and Jenna McMahon". Their comedy writing for their act led them to a new adventure, writing for television shows. Along the way they created and wrote several sitcoms, including "Facts of Life". Their next break came when they joined the Carol Burnett show as writers. It was here that they created and wrote the "Mama's Family" skit. It later became a 30 minute TV Show. Jenna (Virginia) passed away on March 2, 2015 at her home in Carmel, California. She leaves a daughter, Kerry Holden-Dixon of the home and a brother, Bill Skinner and his wife, Doris of Blue Springs, along with numerous nieces, nephews and cousins in the greater Kansas City area. Memorial services will be held in California.

Dear Jenna you were a great friend, and brilliant co-writer on several shows including Burnett, and a very funny person. We had some interesting times- your house, full of the art deco, was so amazing. We'll miss you! Hope you're back together with Dick, doing great comedy sketches.

I grew up in Atlanta, GA. My Uncle Jack was her brother (we adopted him into our family). I can't tell you how many times he talked about your mom. He was so proud of her and what she had done. He was a wonderful man and really meant the world to us. I remember laying on the floor watching "the facts of life" and him telling me she wrote for the show. He thought her life was really amazing. His favorite joke he credited to her was if somebody showed you a baby who wasn't very cute you should say "that's some baby!" I only knew Uncle Jack but after reading your mom's bio I think she must have been amazing also. I'm sorry for your loss.
