I was truly shocked when I got my Kansas Alumni magazine at Paul's passing. He was one of the best all-around athletes I ever met. Paul help me through baseball tryouts our freshman year at KU. He was truly ambidextrous when we would play football or basketball. I lost track of him after we graduated when he was drafted in to professional baseball by the Mets. Paul was a great guy and a great friend.

,My deepest condolences and sympathy to Mrs. Carol Womble and Family members as I just learned of Paul's passing. We were good friends from 7th grade through days after college. I last saw Paul as he visited me in January 1993 after attending Corps of Engineer training in Huntsville, AL. He was not only a good friend, a scholar, a tremendous athlete, and one of the best baseball player to come out of KCK. I regret that we lost contact in the last years.
Paul and I attended many sporting events in KC and I remember when he and I attended a double header basketball game at Allen Fieldhouse in Lawrence as our late Wyandotte High School Senior class president Tim Gabisch let us in for free.
Paul and I both learned how to drive in the spring of 1966 in driver's education taught by Mr. Bob Tompkins our counselor at Centeal Junior as well as at Wyandotte High.
I will always remember Paul with the fondest memories as I do of his parents. Paul was a gentleman and a true Christian and will always be one of my best friends.

Just heard about Paul's passing. I knew Paul from high school. Outstanding athlete and great person. Very shy and humble. The day I was inducted into the Army, I saw an article in Sporting News magazine titled "Womble sure fire superstar". He was being touted as the next NY Mets third baseman. I looked for his name in the Mets box scores over the next three years and never saw it, so when I got out of the service and back to KC, my wife and I had Paul over for dinner. Paul told me that he had been beaned by Steve Busby, and after that was never the same hitter. Too bad, because he certainly had the talent to play at the big league level. I'm sorry for his family, as I'm sure he will be missed.
