ADA KATHRYN RUTH UNRUH

ADA UNRUH Obituary

Ada Unruh celebrated over 91 years of life, and passed away peacefully on January 11, 2011. She was born August 14, 1919 in Halstead, Kansas. Parents Elmer and Dora and brother Harold preceded Ada in death. She loved music and performed in community, college, and church choirs most of her life. While at Bethel College studying elementary education, Ada met and married Wilbur Victor "Bill" Unruh in 1941. After doing graduate work in Manhattan Kansas, they moved to Shawnee Mission, Kansas in 1942 so both could begin teaching careers in the Shawnee Mission School District. Mrs. Unruh taught at Crestview Elementary school for many years. Both Bill and Ada were devoted Christians and members of old Mission Methodist Church. Ada is survived by her children, Ruth Ann Unruh and David J. Unruh, their spouses Loren Sommer and Carolyn Unruh, 5 grandchildren, and 13 great grand children. Her life will be remembered in celebration at Old Mission Methodist Church, Shawnee Mission Parkway and Mission Road, on March 26, 2011 at 1:30 in the afternoon.

Ruth,

Every time I came over to your home in Merriam during our high school years, I always was struck by how great your mom and dad were. They just were my example of role model parents. Mrs. Unruh was so nice to me, so genuinely interested in what I was doing and had to say. She must have been a wonderful teacher. I miss your whole family experience.
