AMPARO MARIA BERNAL Obituary
Amparo Maria Bernal, 87, passed away surrounded by family on Sunday, September 22, 2013 following complications of a stroke. Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday, September 25th, 10:00 a.m., at Guardian Angels Catholic Church, 1310 Westport Road, Kansas City, MO, with burial following in Mount St. Mary's Cemetery. Visitation will be held Tuesday, September 24, at McGilley State Line Chapel, from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m., where the Rosary will be prayed at 7:30 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Guardian Angels Catholic Church. A lifelong Kansas City resident, Amparo was born on February 11, 1926. She married the love of her life, Jose, on August 6, 1949 and to that union she bore nine children. She was an amazing mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and caregiver to anyone who was fortunate enough to benefit from her kindness, love and generosity. She had a beautiful knack of knowing who needed love and guidance and never turned away anyone in need. She would give her last dollar to a total stranger if she thought they needed it. As a younger woman, she took it upon herself to care for her elderly and infirmed neighbors who were all alone. She cared for and babysat scores of children over the years and many formed lasting, lifelong bonds with her and her family. Amparo was preceded in death by her parents, many siblings and her son, Michael. Left behind to mourn her passing is her heartbroken spouse of 64 years, Jose, son David (Stephenie), son Joe Santos, daughter Isabel Covington (Chris), son John, daughter Gloria Carter (Lindsey), son Dionisio, daughter Ana, son Eduardo (Dana), son Vicente; brother Joe Garcia (Bina), sisters, Socorro Estevez (Charlie), Mary Delatorre (Phillip); sisters-in- law, Alice Flores, Adela Flores, Bertha Caldera, Maria D. Bernal; 18 grandchildren, 9 great- grandchildren, and many, many extended family members and friends. She was the matriarch of the family and her beautiful soul will be greatly missed. Rest in peace Mama, you left behind a legacy of love. God called home one of his angels on Earth. Your earthly work is done. Condolences may be left online at www.mcgilleystatelinechapel.com.
