1935 - 2013 Obituary Condolences Gallery
Eugene Don Martin, 77, passed away on November 2, 2013, surrounded by family. Gene passed in Alamo, Texas, where he and his wife, Jane, spent the winter months. He was born December 29, 1935, in Boulder, Colorado, to Don and Lena Martin. Gene was raised in Kirksville, Missouri, where he graduated from high school in 1955. Following high school, Gene served in the United States Army, where he was stationed in Texas and Germany. The Martin family moved to Kearney in 1970. Gene discovered Kearney through his work at UPS and knew it would be a good place to raise a family. He enjoyed coaching his children's KHRA ball teams and attending local sporting events. Gene retired from UPS in 1997, where he worked for 34 years. He enjoyed his retirement by spending time traveling in his RV, wintering in Texas with friends, where he made great memories playing golf, following Mizzou football and spending time with his family. He is survived by the love of his life of 50 years, Jane Martin; his children, Chris Martin (Kelly), Gaye O'Neill (Kevin) and Tricia Rothweiler (John); his grandchildren, Ali VanDyne, Chase Wohlford and Gracie Rothweiler; great-grandson, Caiden; sister, Wanda Kellison of Kirksville, MO, and 14 nieces and nephews and their families. Along with his parents, Gene was preceded in death by three siblings, Delores Branch, Naomi Kellison and Lavon Martin, and a nephew. Visitation will begin at 11:00 a.m., followed by a service celebrating Gene's life at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, November 9, at the Park Lawn Northland Chapel, I-35 at State Route 291, Liberty. Condolences for the family may be left at http://www.parklawnfunerals.com/. In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested in his honor to the Polycystic Kidney Foundation via www.pkdcure.org or may be left at the funeral home. Arrangements: Park Lawn Northland Chapel (816) 781-8228.
