JAMES HARVEY DRAKE

1950 - 2013 | Obituary Condolences
JAMES HARVEY DRAKE Obituary
James Harvey Drake was born in Columbia, Missouri on: September 21, 1950. In a manner so fitting for Jim, he passed away November 15, 2013 while in the steam room at his gym, meditating on the vastness of God, and all of His Glorious Creation. In stillness and quiet he stepped into the full rest and complete wholeness he so often spoke of. Jim is survived by the love of his life and bride of 33 years Debbie Drake, son Justin Drake, daughters Katie Bobrink, Rebekkah Drake and Abbegale Drake, grandchildren Allie Richard and James Drake, sister Cindy Larson, and nieces Amy Larson, and Megan Larson. James graduated from the University of Missouri with a bachelors in Public Administration. From his early days in the Peace Corps, to his adventurous world travels, to his dynamic business life, he found pleasure and meaningful joy in the simple and the complex experiences of life. He had such deep honor and respect for each person he met along the way. One of Jim's special gifts was making every individual he encountered understand their intrinsic value and importance. It was evident to all that he lived large and loved deeply. Jim worked for Hallmark Cards from 1980 to 2000 where he held various positions with increasing levels of influence and leadership. He ended his career with Hallmark as President of The Ensemble Company, one of Hallmark's most innovative and successful initiatives. Jim was always an innovator and entrepreneur at heart and continued to pursue that passion to the very end. In the thesaurus of his life you would find such words as. . . Father, Husband, Poppi, Faithful, Strong, Intelligent, Wise, Passionate, Prankster, Gentleman, Respecter of all people, man after God's own heart, Humble, Caring, Compassionate, Master of Words, Listener, Unconventional, Encourager, Risk Taker, Enthusiastic, Cheerleader. Each word is accompanied with cherished stories of those who knew him best and will miss him most. You are invited to join family and friends to celebrate this "Magical Mystery Tour" that was Jim Drake's life this Saturday, November 23rd at the Brookridge Golf and Fitness Club at 8223 W. 103rd Street in Overland Park KS. There will be a reception from 2-5 pm with a special tribute at 3 pm.
