1943 - 2015 Obituary Condolences Gallery
Richard (Rick) Dakon, 72, Smithville, MO, passed away on May 29, 2015, after a short battle with cancer. He was born on January 9, 1943. Rick was preceded in death by his parents, Hope and Arnold Dakon, and a son, Jamie Freuck. Rick served 4 years in the U.S. Air Force. He retired from TWA/AA after 37 years in 2003. He was a long- time member of the Heart of America Bluegrass and Old Time Music Club, K.C. Area Bluegrass Music Club, and the Gower Goodtimers. His passions were his family, bluegrass music, woodcarving, winemaking, traveling, camping, fishing and hunting. He was best known for his dry sense of humor and keen wit. Survivors include his wife, Gail, daughter Penny Elliott (Kenny), sons Ronald Dakon (DiAnna), Richard Dakon (Kristin) Brian Freuck (Theresa), and his brother Rodney Dakon (Sandra), 13 grandchildren, one great-granddaughter due in August, and an extraordinary amount of family and friends. Funeral services are 10 am, Wednesday, June 3 at McGilley Antioch Chapel; burial in White Chapel Cemetery. Visitation from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday, June 2 at McGilley Antioch Chapel. In lieu of flowers, contributions are suggested to the Heart of America Bluegrass and Old Time Much Club, Kansas City Area Bluegrass Music Club or The Gower Goodtimers.
