Our condolences to the Dillard family. Truly a blessing to me and my family to have had Rick in our lives. We were neighbors on Gibson but he treated us more like family. Such a wonderful and loving individual. Gone but certainly not forgotten.

I met Rick just after his notorious Goodness was Outed by Vital Voice, telling of his trash-to-treasure Chairs he auctioned each May for EFA. Re-reading the Article, I knew a SoulFriend when I read about one. We each lived in the City, and had Dumpster-Dived for Curiosity, Amusement, and later "The Plan", or at least, in his case. I phoned EFA, spoke directly with the then-young Italian multisyllabic Director named . . . I forget. He agrreed to put Rick in touch with me, and next thing, Rick was over here on Chippewa loading a truck-full of chairs, nick-nacks, and, finally, a good number of vintage Windows, Doors, and . . . Snow Shovels. A few days later I told my son, then 23, of my remarkable meeting with Rick. His Energy, his Spirit. Long story much shorter -- my son checked out EFA, wound up working with them and introducing/protecting a number of services for our HIV-Poz citizens, after serving on the AIDS FOUNDATION as their youngest-ever Board Member. Now he is National Director of Development for theCountry's Oldest AIDS Service Org. -ASO- , and is crossing the Country with L.I.F.E., a multi-decade research-based Curriculum which helps those with AIDS to Live full and productive lives, and, statistically, a full 22 years Longer than 'Back In The Day'. Rick and I spoke often of his most valuable link in this cycle of growth, renewal, and I knew him to be more than Humble, even in accepting a Grateful Mother's simple words.

When our son Evan was born, Rick made a chair for his "Nemo" themed room and gave it as a gift to Evan. It is the best thing in his room and we still have it and love it so much. It saddens us to hear about Rick. We will miss getting that special package at Christmas of his greeting card creation for that year. His letters with the cards were so inspirational. We treasure all the memories of you and all you did to help our friend Al in the end of his days. We know both of you are in heaven and are our guardian angels. Who ever knew you will always have that special light in there heart in your memory. We will miss you.

Love, Aaron, Angie, Evan and Gemma Dombrowski

My sincerest sympathies to the friends and family of Rick Dillard. I saw Rick's picture and name in the paper and immediately recognized him as the same "Ricky" Dillard that I used to play with on Red Barn Lane in Wichita, where my family lived until we
moved in 1963. Even in those tender years I recognized how kind and sweet a little boy he was (he never pulled my braids, and I'll always remember my "first kiss" presented to me when I was suspended upside down from the swingset bar). It is apparent from all the wonderful things I have been reading on this site that his nature has been such all along. I feel honored to have known him, even for such a short while and such a very long time ago. I, too, know the pain of loss and my heart aches for you who grieve. I pray that you will soon find peace within your soul - God bless you all.

My deepest sympathies to the Dillard family. How proud you must be to have raised a son who was so kind, talented, loving, funny, honest, joyful, respectful and giving. Plain and simple,he was one of the most wonderful human beings I've ever met. He was a joy to work with as a flying partner and we both shared a common interest selling our "great finds" from our antique booths. His passing brings much sadness to all the people he so warmly touched throught his life. I feel so honored to have known him.

I rememberr one summer, at "the pool", this guy had made pride necklaces using hemp string and little plastic beads. There was one bead for each of the pride colors. I don't know how many he made, but he brought them to the pool on a crowded Sunday and walked around the pool and gave one to every person there. It was a very nice gesture, but one that was not appreciated by most of the guys. Some put them on, some didn't, and some smurked as they left them on the ground. Rick put his on. The next day, Rick was still wearing his. Rick wore that cheap little necklace every day at work that summer. Weeks later, I told Rick that was why I loved him... Because he had and wore that necklace. That was Rick. He made everyone he knew feel special. Rick made me feel special. If he didn't know then, I hope and pray that he knows it know just how special he made us feel and how much we all loved him. We all love you Rick! Thank you Rick for all you did! I love you...

My memories will remain and my prayers will be for Rick as he enters his new life.

Another Tiffany’s Attic alum, here. A favorite memory of Rick was his wonderful dinner parties. On Sept 12, 1977 friends gathered at his Kansas City apartment just up the hill from the Country Club Plaza. After an evening of fine food and laughter we exited to see large vehicles floating like bumper cars through normally dry streets. The flood that night was historic but the memory of it pales in comparison to Rick’s warm and generous hospitality. Heartfelt condolences to his family, loved ones and friends.

When I would see Rick's name on the crew list, I knew I was in for some fun! We had a blast flying together and I have some great memories and pictures of him that I will cherish always.

Rick and I chatted a few months ago after the passing of 'Designing Women' star Dixie Carter; reminiscing about the time we were working first class together on a 747 to London and had Dixie Carter and her husband Hal Holbrook on the flight; sitting in our section. Of course, Rick pampered and fluffed them all night long and never sat down the entire flight.

I am so glad he was apart of my life and had the pleasure of his company and friendship. I wish I could be in St. Louis on Monday to honor him.
