RODNEY VERNON JOHNSTON Obituary
A Beautiful Life Rodney Vernon Johnston, 56, Kansas City, Mo., passed away peacefully September 1, 2013. A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 7, at Resurrection Downtown Methodist Church. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, at Resurrection Downtown Methodist Church. Burial will follow the funeral at Forest Hill Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are being managed by Lawrence A. Jones Funeral Home. Rodney was born in Kansas City in 1957 and remained a lifelong resident. Rodney matriculated and graduated from Central High School and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from University Missouri-Kansas City. Rodney excelled as a CPA and Bank Examiner at the Federal Reserve Bank, and after 25 years of employment he joined the FDIC as an IT Examiner for six years. Rodney further excelled academically receiving CISSP, CISA, CPA certifications to distinguish himself from his colleagues. In his free time Rodney enjoyed landscape architecture, competitive marathon racing, interior and exterior home renovation, and relaxing with his family. Rodney is remembered as a man with a permanent smile, friendly and outgoing, who befriended at-risk youth, neighbors, church family and community leaders all the same. Rodney will be truly missed by all who were blessed to have come in contact with him. Rodney is survived by his five children, Monique, Alison, Jennifer, Samuel, Daniel; two siblings, Joseph Threat of New Orleans, and Diane Vaughn of Modesto, Calif.; his granddaughter, Zahra; and a host of cousins, nieces, and nephews. Rodney is preceded in death by his parents, Samuel and Thelma Johnston; as well as his brother, Walter Johnston. The family of Rodney Johnston wishes to thank Saint Luke's Hospital as well as Resurrection Downtown Methodist Church.
