WALLACE JEROME DANO III

Wallace Jerome Dano, III, 71, of Urbana, IL, passed away on July 13, 2011. There will be a visitation on Monday, July 18, at Owens Funeral Home, 101 N. Elm St., Champaign, IL from 5-7 p.m. The funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, July 19, at 11:00 a.m., at Holy Cross Catholic Church, 403 West Clark, Champaign, IL. Interment will be at St. Mary's Cemetery, Champaign, IL. Jerry was born on January 20, 1940 in Kansas City, MO, the son of Wallace Jerome, Jr. and Maybelle Dano. He grew up as a member of the Guardian Angel Catholic Church community in Kansas City. In 1956, he graduated from the De La Salle Military Academy. Upon graduation, he enlisted in the United States Navy. After completing his Naval service, Jerry began what would be a 32-year career in the banking industry, earning degrees from the American Institute of Banking and the Southwestern Graduate School of Banking. He then joined the Federal Deposit Insurance Company in 1990. He gave another 20 years of service to the government of the United States at the FDIC, first in the Division of Liquidation, then in the Division of Supervision. During his career at the FDIC, Jerry received numerous achievement awards for his outstanding service. Later in life, Jerry became a member of the Holy Cross Catholic Church, where he was active in the church community and made many lifelong friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Loretta; her parents, Charles and Pearl Miller; and his brothers, Densel Gordon and Jack Barber. He is survived by his daughters, Leslie and Tracey Dano, of Plymouth, MA; his sisters and brothers, Linda Gordon, of Kansas City, MO, Charlene Barber, of Oak Grove, MO, Joe and Bernice Wiercinski, of Blue Springs, MO, John and Betty Vaughan, of Oak Grove, MO, and Carolyn Dano. Other survivors include 10 nieces and nephews, their families, and his cousin, Donald Sneed, of Lake Quivira, KS, and his family.
