BEAU GROCEMAN Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Feb. 1, 2011.
Dwayne Reabeau Groceman, 48, died at 3:20 a.m. Sunday, January 30, 2011, at St. Luke's East after a valiant, brief battle against cancer. Beau was born on Nov. 16, 1962, in Independence, Mo., the oldest son of Dwayne and Frances Groceman. He grew up in Lee's Summit, active in the sports system, becoming well known as a fierce competitor and leader in whatever sport he participated in. Beau reluctantly leaves his wife of over 20 years, Katy; his one and only daughter, Phoebe; his mother, Frances Groceman; his brothers and their families, Rex and Nikki and Darren and Rachel; his sister and brother-in-law, Linda and Jim Hayes; five nieces, four nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles, and countless friends and work associates. Preceded in death by his father Dwayne and beloved and devoted grandmother Phoebe Stratton. His work ethic was unequaled he prospered from owning his own construction business in the late 80s and then several positions within local governments and the private sector. Beau was dedicated to delivering quality customer service during his career to the residents of Lee's Summit and Raytown. Beau was a stand out in Kansas City construction; making a name for himself as an honest, insightful business leader. Most recently Beau was the Director of Construction and Planning at Hunt Midwest Enterprises. Beau was focused on business success without neglecting what was most important to him; his family and friends. Beau had a passion for outdoor life; hunting, fishing and recently his daughter's competitive basketball and softball teams. He would come up with many nicknames for the children he mentored. Beau was an amazing leader, but the biggest kid when it came to enjoying the children in his life; the neighbors, the sports teams, the children of friends and family. Beau had a way of letting us all know that they were special and able to do whatever we wanted. We must all carry his encouragement in our hearts so that we hear him cheering us on while he is gone. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 4, at First Baptist Church of Raytown. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday evening, at the Church. Burial will be in the Lee's Summit Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude's Children Hospital. Arr.: Langsford Funeral Home, 115 SW Third Street, Lee's Summit, MO 64063 (816) 524-3700.

Kate--

I am so sorry to hear about Beau. I had no idea-my mom just called me after reading it in the paper. It's been so long since I've seen you and I just didn't know. I am so, so sorry. You were the couple for the ages. How we all loved Beau and Katy! Oh my, I so enjoyed all our times together--double dating--what fun we had. I will keep you and your precious daughter in my prayers. Love you!

Frances, it is not the natural order for a parent to lose a child. I remember what a good mother you were and still are to all of your children. The Lord just seemed to need Beau at this time. He is having a reunion with his father and grandmother and other friends and family that always meant so much to him. We send prayers for you, as the Lord lifts you and the rest of your family up in His loving arms. Beau will be there waiting to see all of you one day.

Beau is once again whole and healthy and always there with you both. God has promised to always be there for you. We send our love and prayers. John and Sherry Swearngin, Sedalia, Mo.

Dear Kate, Phoebe and family,

My heart cries for you all. Beau was a "stand up" man among us.

It is time to grieve, but there will be peace and a time to heal as well.

On a lighter note, personally, I think this storm is Beau's way of saying "I have arrived"...

Love to you all,
Shelli
