Samuel "Sam" T. Cacioppo, 64, of Overland Park, Kan., passed away Saturday, February 1, 2014. He was born Oct. 27, 1949, in Kansas City, Mo., to Nancy (George) and Sam Cacioppo. Sam graduated from Shawnee Mission High School. He continued his education at Kansas University where he graduated with a Bachelor's degree. He then went on to Wichita State University where he received his Master's degree. Sam served in the United States Navy for four years, and did a tour of Vietnam in 1969. In 1982, he met Beverly Rea, they made their home in Overland Park. Sam worked at Ameristar Casino as a card dealer for 16 years before retiring. He also had a long career in the hospitality industry. He enjoyed collecting Southwest Indian pottery, fishing and was an avid golfer. He is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Michael Cacioppo. Sam is survived by his wife, Beverly Rea of the home; brother, Patrick Cacioppo of Overland Park; four step-children, Patti McGrannahan of Overland Park, Grant Greenlee of Lee's Summit, Mo., Greg Greenlee of Boise, Idaho, Bob Greenlee of Leesburg, Va.; 12 step grandchildren; one niece, Kimberly Cacioppo of Miami Beach, Fla. Memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 6, at D.W. Newcomer's Overland Park Chapel, 8201 Metcalf Ave., Overland Park, KS 66204. Visitation will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, at the funeral home.
