MARTHA B. CLEMAGE Obituary
Martha B. Clemage (Phillips), 89, Overland Park, Kan., previously of Northbrook, Ill., died peacefully February 2, 2014. Martha was surrounded by those who loved her in her final hours and will be greatly missed by those whose lives she touched in many ways. Martha is the daughter of Ruth Fleming (Smith) and Harve Phillips. She was a TWA international airline stewardess from 1947 to 1953 when she resigned to marry her loving husband, Alvin M. Clemage, who predeceased her in 1967. During her time at TWA she made promotional movies and was selected for numerous charter flights, among those the Presidential Press plane which accompanied President Truman on his flight to Kansas City during the great flood of 1947. She was a former member of Clipped Wings International. In her later years she volunteered in political campaigns. Martha loved to travel, spending summer vacations driving cross country with her children while camping out. She has also explored many far away places such as Istanbul, Cairo, Vienna, Frankfort, Hong Kong, and Israel. Her love for travel and her adventurous spirit have been passed along to some of her grandchildren. Martha is survived by her son, Ron Clemage (Lynne), daughters, Lori Gilmore and Marcy Porter (Dale), two grandsons, Bryan (Karen) and Justin Gilmore, three granddaughters, Alicia, Lindsey and Jessie Clemage. Martha's daughters will always have a special place in their hearts for the gentle, compassionate care the staff at Garden Terrace of Overland Park gave their mom for so many years. Private family services will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Big Brothers, Big Sisters of Greater Kansas City.
