Chester Ray Lucas, 67, a lifetime resident of Kansas City, MO, passed away Thursday, March 6, 2014. Chester was born February 1, 1947, the son of Chester John and Irma Jean Lucas. He graduated from Southwest High School in 1965. On Chester's 20th birthday, he received his draft notice and served in Vietnam. He was trained as a radio operator but out in the field he became a topographer draftsman. He knew from childhood that he wanted to work for the police department. Chester Ray retired from the Kansas City, MO Police Department in 2012. He was a detective for 27 years and a Crime Analyst for 10 years. Woodworking was his hobby and he enjoyed spending time with good friends, cheering for the Kansas City Chiefs, and watching hunting and crime shows. He was a Life Member of the NRA. He believed in living by the "Golden Rule" to treat people as you would want to be treated. Chester was a kind, generous, funny and intelligent man and will be missed by many. Chester is survived by his brother Dennis Lucas, and leaves behind his wife of 24 years, Shirley Lucas and her two daughters Erin Darrow Smith and Anne Ruiz.
