SYDNEY E. EAKINS Obituary
Sydney E. Eakins, 97, of Belton, died Wednesday, April 2, 2014, at Carnegie Village. She was born Nov. 17, 1916, in Sedalia, a daughter of the late John and Minnie (Raus) Rumsey. On Sept. 8, 1934, in Sedalia, she married Charles William Eakins, who preceded her in death on Feb. 4, 2001, after 66 years of marriage. She was raised and educated in Sedalia. She was a member of Immanuel United Church of Christ. She was a talented seamstress, excellent cook, competitive card player and most of all, enjoyed her family. She is survived by two children, Jeffrey Eakins of Kansas City, Mo., and Olivia Jeanne Dzurick of Columbia; special daughter-in-law, Cindy Jenkins of Gladstone; special granddaughter-in-law, Kelly Kuns, of Belton; seven grandchildren, Sid Kuns (Kelly), Phillips Kuns, Karen Pryor (Dan), Katy Edwards (Gabe), Jennifer Eakins, Rebecca Eakins and Jeffrey Dzurick; seven great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by three children, Charles William Eakins II, Judith Ann Harford and Jodie Brittingham; and seven siblings. Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Saturday, April 5, at McLaughlin Funeral Chapel, Sedalia, with the Rev. Robert Sisney officiating. Pallbearers will be son, Jeffrey Eakins, grandsons, Sid Kuns, Phillip Kuns and Jeffrey Dzurick, Dan Pryor and Gabe Edwards. Visitation will be 1 p.m. until service time. Burial will follow in Mount Herman Cemetery. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Center for Human Services, Sedalia, or the Central Missouri Food Bank, Columbia in care of McLaughlin Funeral Chapel.
