VANITA ALICE (STUENKEL) ELY Vanita went home to be with Jesus April 3, 2014. She was born Sept. 28, 1924, in Concordia, Mo., to Adolph and Alice Stuenkel. She moved to Kansas City after graduating from Blackburn High School in 1943, working as a "Rosie the Riveter" at North American Aviation, building B- 25 Mitchell bomber airplanes during WWII. She married Dale Ely in 1949, living in Honolulu while Dale was in the Navy and had three children. Vanita was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Warner (Bud). She loved the Lord and helping others, being a math tutor with Youth friends and Line Dancing with Shepherd Center, performing for assisted care facilities for over 15 years. Vanita and her family joined Bethel United Church of Christ in 1965, after attending St. Peter's UCC, being very active in all church activities. Vanita is survived by daughters, Rita Pierce (Michael) and Renna Ely; son, Ron (Kathy); seven grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, her niece, Phylis Wegeng (Terry), her nephew, Robert Stuenkel (Gina), 11 great nieces and nephews, that she dearly loved. A celebration of her life will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 9, visitation at 10 a.m. at Bethel UCC, 4900 NE Parvin Rd., KCMO 64117.
