KATHERINE CLAUDINE SUMMERS Obituary
KATHERINE CLAUDINE SUMMERS Katherine Claudine Hamilton Summers died March 31, 2014. She was 84 years old. She was born in Kansas City, Mo., to Claude and Pearl Brubacher Hamilton on Feb. 27, 1930. Her mother died in childbirth. Katherine was reared by her father and dear stepmother, Juliet Hamilton, in Wellsville, Kan. She graduated from Wellsville High School in 1948. She and a girlfriend moved to the big city to attend Kansas City Secretarial School, graduating in 1949. Katherine was employed by Skelly Oil, Leiters Design Fabrics on the Plaza and Internal Revenue Service, earning a reputation as a careful, honest, efficient, reliable, and cheerful worker. She was married to Paul R. Summers. Their marriage did not last, but they remained friends. He preceded her in death. Katherine was ordained a deacon at Spring Ridge Bethel Presbyterian Church. Soon after, she joined Roanoke Presbyterian Church and was member of its Banner Class for decades, serving as deacon there as well. She was member of Westport Presbyterian Church at the time of her death. Through her participation in the church, she made many friends. They were a great source of comfort and support to her. She also enjoyed traveling with friends. Katherine treasured her friends and neighbors, particularly Bernice Holden, Lucille Good, Delbert and Agnes Scheid, Barbara Eufinger, Mary Thomas, Cathy and Dennis Owens, Kwang Kim, Mike and Reena Esposito, and her friends at Westport Church and Kingswood. She lived at Kingswood Senior Living Community for the past couple of years, where she enjoyed helping with the games and activities. She received excellent care at the Kingswood Care Center. A memorial service Saturday, April 19, will be held at Westport Presbyterian Church, currently meeting at The Villa of Kansas City, 412 Baltimore. There will be a 10:30 a.m. visitation followed by the 11 a.m. service. A private burial of her ashes at Gardner Cemetery, Gardner, Kan., will follow. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested for Westport Presbyterian Church, which suffered a devastating fire in 2011. Arr.: McGilley Midtown Chapel, (816) 753-6200.
