FRED L. KING Obituary
Fred L. King, 94, of Independence, Mo., passed away April 30, 2014. Visitation to be 1 to 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 6, at Floral Hills Funeral Home. Graveside service at 2 p.m. at Floral Hills Memorial Gardens. Fred was born Oct. 6, 1919, in Independence to Albert C. and Ona R. King. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II. He worked as an over-the-road truck driver for many years and later as a custodian with the Blue Springs School District. Fred was a longtime member of the Teamsters, the American Legion, and Masonic Lodge 76. He was active with the Community of Christ Church. Fred and Naomi volunteered at Truman Medical Center and were known for helping anyone that they could. Fred was preceded in death by his wife of over 60 years, Naomi, as well as his daughters, Fredna Hamernik and Ranae Soptic. He is survived by his daughter, Malea Hawkins; three grandchildren, Jason and Jefferey Hamernik, Brooke Soptic; four great- grandchildren Ethan, Alex, Jackson, and Jocelyn.
