February 21, 1931-June 8, 2014 Beverly Ann Simpson, 83, passed away Sunday, June 8, 2014 at Golden Living Center in Smithville MO. Beverly was born February 21, 1931 in Watertown, South Dakota to Helmer and Bertha Anderson. At 5 years of age, the family moved to the family farm in Carthage, South Dakota. Although raised during the depression, Beverly had countless fond memories of her childhood home and Norwegian heritage. She graduated from Carthage High School in 1949. In an era that expected her to stay home and clean house, Beverly decided to go beyond what was expected of her. She graduated from General Beadle State Teachers College in 1951 and was certified and taught for 3 years as a first grade teacher. In 1954, she moved to Kansas City and married Vincent Simpson. Beverly and Vincent were fiercely dedicated to each other and together they raised 5 children. Beverly worked as a substitute teacher for the North Kansas City School District. She later became a Montessori Teacher and soon after owned and operated Clay Montessori. She had a great love and talent in educating children, many of whom still remember Mrs. Simpson years later. She changed the lives of countless children by helping them to learn to read and write. Along with her parents and sister, Doris Schager, Beverly was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 57 years, Vincent Simpson. Survivors include her five children, Barbara O'Roark, Christine (Kenneth) Selby, Stephen Simpson, Patricia (Tom) Caby , and Carolyn (Kenneth) Kilgore, 10 grandchildren and 2 great- grandchildren. Beverly was an incredible mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, teacher, and friend. "Ten thousand Swedes ran through the weeds, chased by one Norwegian"-Beverly Simpson. Services will be held at Saint Gabriel Parish, 4737 N Cleveland Avenue, Kansas City, on June 12, 2014 at 10:30 AM. A visitation will precede the service beginning at 9:30. Arr.
