DOROTHY MAY SHAPIRO Obituary
Dorothy May Shapiro passed away reluctantly on June 12, 2014 in Prairie Village, KS. Funeral services 10:00 am Sunday, June 15, at the Louis Memorial Chapel, 6830 Troost Ave. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery. Kindly omit flowers; the family suggests contributions to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, 6811 Shawnee Mission Parkway, Mission, KS 66202 (www.lls.org). Dorothy was born in Kansas City, MO on February 14, 1927.  Her parents were Sam and Edna Beiser. She was the last of seven siblings.  She attended Central High School and graduated from Junior College in Kansas City with an Associate's Degree in Liberal Arts. Before her marriage, Dorothy worked for Emery, Bird, Thayer and Company and Wolferman's. She was married to Carle I. Shapiro for 55 years, until his death in 2006.  A devoted mother, wife and grandmother, she always made sure that everyone had enough to eat when they visited her home.  Dorothy had a wicked sense of humor, a love of movies and books that she passed onto her children and grandchildren, and was adored by all who knew her. She leaves behind sons: Matthew Shapiro of Hulbert, OK; Stephen Shapiro and wife Laura Dill, of Kansas City, MO; daughter: Jan Jarchow and husband, Pete, of Prairie Village; and grandchildren Zachary and Tegan Jarchow. Condolences may be shared at www.louismemorialchapel.com. (Arr. The Louis Memorial Chapel, 816-361-5211.)
