Eugene D. Desaulniers, 87, of Kansas City, MO, passed away July 8, 2014. Visitation will be 9 am, Saturday, July 12, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, 1357 NE 42nd Terr., KCMO, followed by a Mass at 10:30 am and luncheon at 12 pm. Inurnment with Military Honors will be 11 am, Monday, July 14, at Missouri State Veterans Cemetery, Higginsville, MO. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the El Salvador Scholarship Fund c/o St. Patrick's Parish. Eugene was born on October 29, 1926, in St. Louis, MO, to Mathilda and Joseph E. Desaulniers. He grew up the only brother to four sisters, three of whom were nuns. He was a WWII Veteran of the US Navy. He was the owner of Physicians Exchange, Inc., a private ambulance company in Kansas City and then co- owned ASI, a consortium of private ambulance operators who in 1979 and 1980 helped the City Council of Kansas City transition to the public utility model of emergency services. Governor Kit Bond awarded him the #1 paramedic license in the state of Missouri. After retiring, he worked for the IRS for 15 years, and then as a funeral driver for Acme Livery, where he later served as office manager and coordinated the logistics of all the cars and drivers. Eugene loved the Lake of the Ozarks where he and his wife had a home and boat for several years. He kept up to date on current events and loved exploring the latest electronic gadgets. He had a great mind and a vast range of knowledge that covered many subjects. He loved talking, laughing, and sharing a good story with friends and family, had a sharp wit, and loved attending his grandchildren's sporting events. His parents and 4 sisters preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Kathleen Desaulniers, and children; Don Desaulniers, Janet Desaulniers, Suzanne Desaulniers, Annette Desaulniers- Barczewski (Dominic Barczewski), stepchildren; Bill Farley (Teri Farley), Sondra Farley, Theresa Hultz (Steve Hultz), Kim Farley, Jacqueline Elkin (Tye Elkin), grandchildren; Luke Crumley, Brooke and Dominic Barczewski, Lauren and Blake Farley, Paige and Sydney Hultz, and Delaney Elkin.
