Margaret Estelene (Kelly) Hughes Obituary
HUGHES Margaret Estelene (Kelly) Hughes, 98, died on July 18, 2014. She was born on June 16, 1916 the oldest daughter of James J. and Anna Lee (Jarvies) Kelly in Edina, Knox Co., Missouri. During the depression Estelene came to Kansas City to live with her aunt, Lena Walzem. She attended Redemptorist High School for her junior & senior years graduating in 1934. Estelene was employed at Merchants Credit Bureau for 8 years. She retired in 1975 from the U.S. Department of Agriculture where she worked for 33 years during which time she was recognized with several awards. Estelene married Gerard L. Hughes in February 1966. They were married 20 years prior to his death in 1986. Estelene was a long time member of Christ the King Catholic Church where she was active in the Senior's Club, Funeral Luncheon Committee, Women's Auxiliary, & the Christmas Basket Program. She was also a member of the Siena Club and Salvation Army. Estelene is preceded in death by her husband, Gerald, and three of her sisters, Rosemary Kelly, Loretta Marie Kelly Werner, and Lucille Kelly McKay. She is survived by her sister, Helen K. Wilson of Lee's Summit, MO; stepson, Thomas G. (Penelope) Hughes, Shawnee Mission, KS; step granddaughter, Lynn Marie (James D.) Kurr and two great- grandchildren of Overland Park, KS; 7 nieces, 2 nephews, and a number of grand & great-grand nieces and nephews. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, July 26, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Christ the King Catholic Church, 8510 Wornall Rd., Kansas City, MO. Visitation will precede the Mass at 10:00 a.m. at the church. Burial in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Raytown, MO. The family would like to thank the staff at Villa Ventura, Manor Care and Crossroads Hospice for all of their care. Family suggests contributions to Christ the King Catholic Church, the , or Multiple Sclerosis Society.
