MARION DORIS FLAMM Obituary
Marion Doris (Wright) Flamm, 95, Belton, MO, passed away Friday, August 1, 2014. The family will receive visitors at the Park Lawn Funeral Home, 8251 Hillcrest Road, Kansas City, MO, Monday, August 4th from 5:30 to 8:00 pm. Inurnment will follow at a later date in Riverside Cemetery, Stoughton, WI. Marion was born September 22, 1918 in Stoughton, WI, the daughter of Kenneth and Tilla (Sveum) Wright. She was a member of the 1936 Stoughton High School graduating class and later a 1941 graduate of LaCrosse State Teacher's College (now University of Wisconsin- LaCrosse) where she majored in Physical Education. She taught one year in Oshkosh, WI, then moved to southern California in 1942 following the outbreak of WWII. While there she worked briefly at the Hotel Del Coronado near San Diego followed by several years in the Los Angeles area. Marion moved to Kansas City in 1948 and was a kindergarten teacher in the Hickman Mills School District from 1958 until her retirement in 1982. During that time she taught hundreds of students at the Rockford and Johnson elementary schools. In addition to teaching school full time, Marion was a part time waitress at the Hillcrest Country Club from 1963 to 1996. Until her health declined a few years ago, she enjoyed having lunch and playing cards with her many friends in the seniors group at the Belton Community Center. Her greatest joy was having her large family gather together. Her parents and one daughter, Denna Sue Flamm, preceded her in death. Marion is survived by her children, Bill (Joan) Flamm of Lee's Summit, MO, Paul (Michelle) Flamm of Parkville, MO, and Michelle (Jerry) Gorman of the home; her sisters Agatha Wits of Green Bay, WI, Betty Colden of Stoughton, WI, and Jackie Kittleson of Stoughton, WI; her eight grandchildren Robert (Linda) Gorman, Amy (Brent) Babcock, Stacey (Scott) Lindeman, Jonathan (LeeAnn) Flamm, Spencer (Becky) Flamm, Jeff (Erica) Gorman, Ginny Flamm Dempsey, and Hayley Flamm. Eleven beloved great- grandchildren (Sofie, Lilly, Brooks, Anna, Mason, Matthew, Phoebe, Isabella, Olivia, Lena, and Joseph) also survive her as well as many nieces and nephews. She was blessed with a large family and all will miss her. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Belton Senior Center, 609 Minnie Drive, Belton, MO. 64012.
