1930 - 2014 | Obituary Condolences
James R. Bell, 84, of Odessa, Mo., died August 15, 2014. Visitation will be 9:30 to 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 19, at Royer Funeral Home, Grain Valley, Mo. Memorial service will follow at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. He was born Jan. 26, 1930. His parents were Elmer and Liza (Stephens) Bell. Jim was a gambler, a jokester and a self-made man. As with so many Depression era kids, Jim had to learn how to make it on his own. By age 12 he way playing poker with grown men and winning! At age 16, he moved to Kansas City to go to barber school with his big brother, Clint. Jim returned to Lebanon, Mo., where he barbered for many years until a heart by-pass surgery forced his early retirement. Jim was always in search of the cheapest gas, always had a coupon for lunch and he always got the best of any new car salesman. He never missed an opportunity to share one of his many jokes with anyone he met. Family always came first with Jim. Jim was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Bonnie Jean (Hayes) Bell and brother, Clint Bell. Jim is survived by his sons, Jim Bell, Steve Bell (Donna); grandsons, Josh Bell, Sam Bell and special friend, Laquita Fears. The family wishes to thank Golden Living Center in Odessa, and Three Rivers Hospice for their kindness and care. Arr.: Royer Funeral Home 100 Royer Lane, Grain Valley, MO 64029 (816) 847-4441.
