Billy R. "Roger" Shipman, 75, of Blue Springs, Mo., passed away Friday August 15, 2014, at KU Medical Center. Billy was born Sept. 9, 1938, in Russellville, Mo., to Henry and Myrtle (Amos) Shipman. He served his country in the US Army. Roger was a Materials Inspector for the Missouri Department of Transportation. He was a Baptist by faith. Roger enjoyed bowling, volleyball, fishing, hunting, and coin collecting. He was preceded in death by parents; brothers, Jim Shipman, Wayne Shipman, and Roy Shipman; sisters, Bonnie Giboney, Mae Vaughn, Pauline Hoelsher, and Nelda Neustzler. Roger is survived by wife, Ardyce of the home; son, Roger Shipman of St. Charles, Mo.; daughter, Stacie Hunter and husband Tim of Oak Grove, Mo.; sister, Peggy Carver of Holts Summit, Mo.; grandson, Alex Hunter and wife Maggie of Columbia, Mo.; granddaughter, Sara Hunter of Oak Grove; and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 19, at Meyers Funeral Chapel, 1600 W. Main St., Blue Springs, (816) 229-3276. Funeral service at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 20, at the funeral chapel. Burial in Missouri Veterans Cemetery, Higginsville, Mo., will follow. Contributions in memory of Roger may be made to Children's Mercy Hospital.
