Obituary Condolences

Katie Fontana, 102, passed away Sunday, January 11, 2009 at New Mark Care Center. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:30 a.m., Tuesday, January 13, at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 1357 NE 42nd Terr., Kansas City, MO 64116; burial in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Visitation will be 9:30- 11:30 a.m., Tuesday ,at St. Patrick Church prior to Mass. Katie was born March 4, 1906 in Rayme, LA to Leonarda and Vincenzo Giordano. She has lived in Kansas City for most of her life. She is preceded in death by her parents, beloved husband Frank, son-in-law Leonard Passantino, granddaughter Marianne (Ferrara) Hogan, grandson Frank Fontana, and great-grandson Dominic Passantino. She is survived by her daughters Marie Passantino, Leonore Ferrara and her husband Victor, and her son Victor Fontana. Katie's surviving grandchildren are: Carol Schulze (Richard), Rocky Passantino (Anita), Frank Passantino (Paula), Denny Hogan, Anthony Ferrara, Cathy Scimeca (Nick), Cathy Calia (Tom), Carol Belfonte (Henry), Marie Brancato (Dominic), Jennifer Fontana, and Tanner Fontana. Katie is also survived by twenty-eight great- grandchildren, and nine great-great grandchildren. Katie was loved and admired not only by her family, but by many others who knew her for her generosity and many skills. Katie was past-president of The Daughters of Isabella and an active member of St. Patrick Church for many years. She was honored for her service by the Bishop of the Kansas City-St. Joseph diocese.
