Patricia Maureen Ann Bailey

Obituary | Condolences

10-28-1951 - 6-21-2009 Patricia Bailey of Mid- Town Kansas City, Missouri, went to her joy and celebration Sunday, June 21, 2009, at the home of her longtime friend and soul mate, Stephanie Straub of Gardner, Kansas. Patricia, the recipient of a liver transplant in 1996, had been in failing health the past couple of years. In spite of this, until recently she continued to be an attendee of the "dog park" with her faithful companion, Myrtle, and also an active participant in the Mid-Town AA Group "Live and Let Live." The "dog park" provided her and Myrtle with innumerable hours of pleasure and the opportunity to make new friends while "Live and Let Live" anchored her sobriety and supported her in daily life. Patricia was most proud of her sobriety and constantly strived to better herself and touch others through the positive teachings of AA. In younger years, Patricia performed stand-up comedy at local clubs and fund-raisers to benefit the cause of AIDS. Patricia was a smart, funny individual who even at the end of her life continued to support friends and family with her positive outlook, sense of humor and serenity. Patricia is survived by her mother, Kathleen Bailey, brothers and sisters-in- law, Richard and Laura Bailey, Kenneth and Mona Bailey, along with two nieces and two nephews. Patricia was pre- deceased by her father, Virgil Bailey, and brother, Robert Bailey. In addition to Patricia's biological family, she is survived by her "chosen family", who loved and cared for her throughout the years. Patricia taught us many life lessons, and will be sorely missed by all. Patricia wanted to give special thanks to her health care providers, Dr. Wendell Clarkston and Lola of St. Luke's and Renee and Jade of St. Luke's Hospice. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to "Little Sisters of the Poor." Services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, June 25, at Center for Spiritual Living, 1306 W. 39th, Kansas City, Missouri, with graveside services following at Mount Olivet.
