This has been a tough period for our families. We lost Bill Whitenack recently and now Leo. As I ponder old memories of reunions spoken of in other messages I recall the brand new Ford cars Leo was always sporting with the most modern gadets. He drove us to the Air Force museum once in Dayton, Ohio and we were all amazed to see cruise control in action. I would love to have seen more of him through the years. He was the life of any gathering.

Grace - I'm sorry for the loss of your wonderful, loving husband. I was too young/removed to know him well, but he always seemed like a kind, warm man. I'm thankful that he is up in heaven now, free from the physical pain that he had on this earth. May God bless you and your wonderful family.

Aunt Grace and family,
As already stated, I will always remember Uncle Leo's smile and his easy going nature. He was always fun to be around. We rejoice that he is free from the confines of his health issues but mourn with you the loss of his presence in your lives.

Aunt Grace and family,
When I picture Uncle Leo, it is always one with a smile- which is probably the best tribute to say he was a happy man with a wonderful family and much to smile about. We send you our deepest love and treasure the memories of our family reunions.
Love to you all,
Jim and Nancy(Whitenack)Wetrich,Marc and Matt

Aunt Grace, Bruce, Dan and Jill,
We were so very sorry to hear about Uncle Leo. We rejoice that he is in a wonderful place now, but we will miss him. I will always remember him smiling. He had a wonderful sense of humor, and loved to laugh. I last saw him on Jekyll Island several years ago. I will dig out the pictures and send to you! Please know that we are keeping you close to our hearts now, and we hope that your happy memories will continue to comfort you in this difficult time. Love you~ Jerry, J.B., and Janet Whitenack McLendon

Grace and Family, so sorry for your loss of this great man. As a cousin, I always enjoyed being around Leo and his wonderful humor, zest for life, kindness and mannerly way. He had a unique wonderful way of expressing his thoughts about situations and events. He will be missed and remembered by the extended family. Leo was one of a kind. His brave battle with diabetes was exemplary.

Dear Grace and Family; Being the youngest cousin, I was always in awe of my big cousin Leo. My earliest memory of Leo centers around an unusually small car that the Haydens had - the Bantam. I thought that car was so cool. I also remember the flood of 1951 and being able to help the Haydens out in their time of need. My parents and Leo's parents were always close and I remember the family gatherings on Sundays and Holidays. Like Joanne mentioned, cards were always a big part of those gatherings. I did not always get to play with the "big kids" in the beginning, but eventually learned some of the games and was graciously accepted in the big kid games.
Leo in later years was always a sort of folk hero to me as he was so successful in the car business and in all aspects of his life. I admired Leo so much because of his attitude toward life and people. My impression of him is that he was almost always cheerful, positive, full of hope, and proud of his children and of course you, Grace, even though you, like me, went to that other school! We greatly enjoyed our visits with you an Leo and always felt that you welcomed us into your home at all times. Leo, like his Dad, was a master story teller and could keep me entertained with stories of our families and of Lawrence.
He was a wonderful man who will be missed by many, but most of all by you. Blessings to you, Dan, Bruce and Jill. I know your children will be your rocks and will be blessings to you in the days to come.

Dear Grace and family; we mourn with all of you over Leo's passing away; our family was so blessed to know him...and will miss him much.
Eons ago King David’s son…Solomon wrote, “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted, and He uplifts those who are crushed in spirit.” Such is my prayer for all of you...that when your hearts feel broken over this great loss ...and your spirit feels crushed by the weight of grief - that God's presence will be extra close and that He will uplift, strengthen and encourage you - now and in the days ahead.

Leo was one of my first bosses at Ford in the mid 1960's and he taught me a lot. We have lost a generous person and a true gentleman this week. Grace, my thoughts and prayers are with you and the rest of the family. Bob Frey (Bloomfield Hills, MI)

As a kid, I loved being at Aunt Lula and Uncle Albert's home. The huge sandbox and tree house were such fun and getting to see the great train set-up in the basement was a delight. Then playing Pig (Spoons) with the cousins -- Leo, Ralph plus others -- was a free-for-all. While the adults played Spades or Hearts?? Leo was older, good-looking and charming. My picture of him was an untouchable College man!
I lived with the family when I was in Jr. Hi for a semester while the house Dad bought in Lawrence was fixed up. I slept with Mable (bless her) and Ralph and Leo slept in another room on a double bed while Grandpa Hartman slept on a cot in their room. This was a picture for me of how families cared for each other.
Leo & Ralph knew every train and its schedule that passed the depot which was only one block away. I was very blessed to be with the family and to get to know the cousins. It was not a boring family! Joanne
