ELIZABETH CHRISTINE HILL

Libby Hill spent the last few weeks of her life in a place she loved more than anywhere on Earth, bringing joy to friends and campers at Voyageurs Lutheran Ministries in the Boundary Waters region of northern Minnesota. Elizabeth Christine Hill died Tuesday, July 2, 2013, after a car accident near Cook, MN. She was 19 years old. Libby was born to Angela and Christopher Hill on April 15, 1994. With a bevy of singers in the family, it's no small wonder she showed an early skill for music. She often woke her slumbering twin brothers singing in the shower early in the morning, but her beautiful voice never bothered them - too much. Libby would later compete for Liberty High School at Missouri state music competitions, earning top honors for her performance in chamber and concert choir. She helped establish a ukulele club at Drury University called DUkes. Libby combined that love of music with the theater as she moved forward in school, eventually performing with the theater company at Liberty High School and later Drury. Libby competed with several troupes in one-act play competitions at the state level, both as a performer and as a lighting engineer. She appeared as Glinda, the Good Witch, in Liberty's production of The Wizard of Oz in fall 2011. After the shows, in full glitter makeup and a billowing pink dress, she posed for photos with excited toddlers on stage. In these first few weeks of the summer after her freshman year of college, Libby had been ministering to students as a counselor at Voyageurs Lutheran Ministries. She loved the calm waters of the Boundary Lakes, the passion of her fellow counselors for ministry and the cooler summers compared to the Missouri heat. She had hoped to get a degree in theater education at Drury. Libby was a voracious reader, a lover of all kinds of music and a huge Wes Anderson fan. Her smile brought out the best in her friends and family, and she will be sorely missed by many in Liberty, southwestern Iowa and all those touched by her grace and sense of humor. Libby is survived by her mother, Angela; her father, Christopher; her twin brothers, Cam and Kip; and scores of cousins, aunts, uncles and grandparents. According to her wishes, Libby's bone and connective tissues were donated so that others might have a chance at a comfortable life. A private memorial service for Libby is scheduled in Kansas City on Saturday, July 13, to be followed by a remembrance at the Shoal Creek Golf Course Facility, 8905 Shoal Creek Parkway, Kansas City, MO, 64157, from 5 to 8 p.m. A memorial fund will be established in Libby's name at Drury, and a tree will be planted on the school grounds when classes commence in the fall. Libby's remains will be scattered by her family at the campgrounds in Minnesota, on Lake Superior and at Drury. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Liberty High School Music department, the Liberty High and Drury University Theatre departments or Voyageur Lutheran Ministries.
