Obituary Condolences

Elvin Blonder Klein, 91, Overland Park, Kan., passed away Saturday, September 7, 2013, in Dana Point, Calif. Graveside services will be at Westlawn Cemetery, Chicago, Ill. The family suggests contributions in his memory to Village Shalom, 5500 W. 123rd St., Overland Park, KS 66209. Elvin was born April 10, 1922, in Chicago, the son of Dr. Daniel and Gertrude Klein. He graduated from Northwestern University, earned his law degree from the University of Missouri Law School and received an honorary degree from William Jewell College. He served as a Lt. Commander in the U.S. Navy during World War II and also served in the Korean Conflict. Elvin was co- founder of US Toy Company with his wife, Frances Wang Gershon. Elvin was a member of the boards of The Jewish Community Center of Greater Kansas City, Child World School and the Lyric Opera and was a Governor of the American Royal. He was a member of Oakwood Country Club, the Carriage Club and also Pinnacle Peak Country Club in Scottsdale, Ariz. Elvin is survived by his children: Michael Klein, Bari Klein Freiden and her husband Floyd Freiden, Philip Klein; brother and sister-in-law: Dr. Alan and DeeDee Klein; grandsons and their wives: Jonathan Freiden and Rebecca Dragon Freiden, Seth and Robyn Freiden; and great- grandchildren: Alexandra, Jonah, Danielle, Dylan and Kara Freiden.
