1917 - 2014 Obituary Condolences
Howard Crawford died on April 1, 2014 at the Health Center at Claridge Court.  Howard was born in 1917 in Stafford, KS where his grandfather Crawford had homesteaded and founded the town of Stafford in 1873. He attended Stafford HS and graduated from Kansas State University in 1939.  He was a 1942 graduate of the University of Michigan Law School.  At the time of his death, he was a retired partner in what is now Lathrop & Gage law firm, the predecessor of which he joined in 1942 after his service in the U.S. Naval Reserve. Howard was a member of the American Bar Association, Missouri Bar, Kansas Bar, the Lawyer's Association of Kansas City, Country Club Christion Church, Mission Hills Country Club, the Vanguard Club, Fourth National Investors, and Sigma Nu Fraternity.  For many years he served as the trustee of the Women's Christian Association operating Armour Home and the Gillis Center as a member of the Calkins Trust Board.  He had been a member of the City Council of Mission Hills, the Board of Directors of the Lyric Opera, an officer and director of the Lawyer's Association of Kansas City, and the president of the Indian Hills Homes Association.  He had been admitted to practice before the Supreme Courts of Missouri and Kansas, the United States Supreme Court, and the Eighth, Tenth, and District of Columbia Circuit Courts of Appeal. He was preceded by his wife, Millie, whom he adored, and is survived by his son, Ed Crawford and wife Elena of LaJolla, CA and his daughter and son-in-law, Cathy and Joe McCaddon of Prairie Village, and two granddaughters, Reilly and Megan McCaddon.  The family wants to extend their thanks to the doctors and caregivers, especially Julia and Brittani, who cared for Howard, allowing him to reach the ripe old age of 96. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Saturday, April 5, 2014 at Country Club Christian Church, 6101 Ward Parkway, KC, MO with a reception following at Claridge Court, 8101 Mission Rd.  In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Cornerstones of Care, Development Dept., 300 East 36 St., Kansas City, MO  64111.
