BATAVIA – Dee C. Ryan, 90, of Batavia, passed away Nov. 24, 2012, at Rosewood Care Center in St. Charles. He was born Feb. 21, 1922, in Washington County, Ky., the son of Glen and Eva (nee Shewmaker) Ryan. He was united in marriage to Jean Stokes in DeKalb County on April 16, 1942.
Dee served in the United States Army Air Corps during World War II. He was a tail gunner on a B-29 and, after being injured, he served as a crew chief mechanic on B-29s. He fought in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater, receiving a theater ribbon and three bronze stars. Dee was a proud American veteran and was a member of the Batavia VFW and American Legion. He owned and operated Ryan's Body Shop in Batavia for more than 40 years. He served as a Boy Scout troop leader for many years in Batavia. In his spare time, Dee enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren at his property on the Wisconsin River. He will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and special friend to many.
Dee is survived by his children, Glen "Buck" Ryan, Kathryn (Jim) Sauer, Barbara "Barbie" (John) Hanson, and Mike (Becky) Ryan; nine grandchildren: Jimmy (Lori) Martin, Zimmerman Stein, Jemma (Jason) Ryan-Roth, Julie (Dave) Skirmont, Jeremy (Margaret) Sauer, Donovan Hanson, Cara (Nelson) Hanson, and Carly and Sydney Ryan; 11 great-grandchildren, Sean and Erin Martin; Matthew, Abigail and Wesley Skirmont; Evelyn and Kathryn Sauer; Serene and Evangeline Ryan-Roth; and Ryan and Linden Hanson-Taruc; a brother, Karl (Wilda) Ryan and three sisters, Ilene Sanders, Barbara Haile, and Devola Doll; two sisters-in-law, Eleanor Ryan and Leona Casey, and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Jean; a daughter, Billie Jean Martin and a son, Ronald Ryan; a grandson, William Dee Martin; and his siblings, Alma Bottoms, Evelyn Walker, William Ryan (twin), John Ryan, Glen Ryan, Naomi Ryan, Darlene Ryan, Patricia Ryan, and Martha May Ryan.
Visitation will be held 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 2, at Moss Family Funeral Home, 209 S. Batavia Ave. in Batavia.
Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 3, at Moss Family Funeral Home. Interment will follow in West Batavia Cemetery.
