Evelyn Marschinke Obituary

WEST CHICAGO – Evelyn G. Marschinke, 96, lifelong resident of West Chicago, passed away Monday, Oct. 7, 2013. She was born on Sept. 23, 1917, in Elgin to Loren and Pansy Gillum.

Evelyn was a 1934 graduate of West Chicago High School and attended Moser Business College in Chicago. She was united in marriage to Earl Marschinke on May 18, 1940.

Evelyn worked from 1935 to 1947 at W.L. Stensgoard & Association as a secretary. She was a member of the First Congregational Church of West Chicago since 1931, where she was a Life Deacon and secretary from 1963 to 1969. She also worked as a clerk for the city of West Chicago from 1969 until her retirement in July 1985.

Evelyn was the Past Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star, member of Illinois Grand Representatives Association, International Grand Representatives Association, West Chicago Historical Society, Central DuPage Hospital Auxiliary, Fox Valley Chapter Batavia O.E.S. Lodge #265, Wayne Township Seniors, and served on the Senior Council for the West Chicago Park District. Evelyn enjoyed traveling, crossword puzzles, Bible study, reading, and especially volunteering for Central DuPage Hospital, Meals on Wheels and Rotary Club.

Evelyn is survived by her son, Paul (Sandy) Marschinke of St. Charles; daughter-in-law, Cheryl Marschinke of Wayne; grandsons, Dan (Karmah) of San Francisco, Calif., Chris of Elburn and Curtis of Wayne; relatives and many, many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Earl, in 1962; and son, Wayne, in 2007.

Visitation will be held from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 13, at Norris-Walen-Segert Funeral Home, 132 Fremont St., (one block north of Washington Street and Main Street), West Chicago. An Eastern Star and funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 14, at the funeral home. The Rev. Tim Mitchell will officiate. Interment is at Glen Oak Cemetery in West Chicago.
