James B. Naughton, 88, a longtime resident of St. Charles, died Dec. 31 at Westbury Care Center in Lisle. He was born Aug. 14, 1925, in St. Charles to James and Mabel Naughton.
He married Mary Pentimall on Oct. 4, 1947.
He was a corporal in the United States Marines Corps., serving in Word War II, fighting on Iwo Jima and receiving a Purple Heart. James earned his undergraduate degree from La Salle College and his master's degree from the University of Chicago. He was a longtime member of St. Patrick Catholic Church.
He is survived by his wife, Mary; children, James (Deborah) Naughton, Maureen Naughton, Thomas Naughton, John Naughton, Eileen (Patrick) Brennan, Theresa (Michael) Gilbert, Patrick (Marilyn) Naughton, and Kathleen (Terrence) Lyne; 16 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and his sister, Nancy Naughton Stopka.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Bonnie Naughton Schramer.
Funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Jan. 4 at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 408 Cedar St., St. Charles. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 3, at Yurs Funeral Home, 1771 State St., Geneva. Interment will be at Union Cemetery in St. Charles.
