LaVern A. LaPota, 95, passed away June 23, 2013 at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Merilee and Dane Curtis, surrounded by her loving family.
LaVern was born Nov. 15, 1917, in Chicago, the daughter of the late George and Lea Giles. She graduated from Northwestern University in Evanston in 1938 with a degree in botany.
On Nov. 1, 1941, LaVern married the late John LaPota, and for 57 years together, they traveled the world. She was an avid golfer and played well into her late 80s. LaVern was an amazing cook and always enjoyed hosting family gatherings and parties at her home in Wheaton. She enjoyed spending the winters in Florida with John, fishing and swimming and chatting with her Florida friends. LaVern was a gentle, graceful and classy soul who had a loving heart and was always there when you needed her.
She was predeceased by her parents, George and Lea Giles and her beloved husband, John.
LaVern leaves her loving legacy to be cherished by her daughter, Merilee Curtis, her son-in-law, Dane Curtis and her granddaughter Jennie Curtis and many friends.
Services will be private.
