Anne Southard Brink Obituary
Anne Southard Brink

Born: May 13, 1938

Died: October 26, 2017

Anne Southard Brink of St. Charles, IL, passed away on Thursday, October 26, 2017, at the age of 79.

The eldest of five, Anne attended St. John's High School in Jackson, MI, and worked to put herself through college, graduating in 1967 with a BS in marketing from the University of Illinois at Chicago. Anne's work for Arthur Andersen brought her for a time to San Francisco, CA.

Back in Chicago, Anne met John Brink in 1969 on a work assignment; he had three small children at the time. They married in 1970 and raised them together, first in Niles, then in Oak Park, and then settling in River Forest. In 1972, Anne and John co-founded Blackhawk Data Corporation, a downtown Chicago computer consulting firm, where she served as Vice President. In addition to her roles as executive and mother, Anne also used her talents as a volunteer, most notably with the Infant Welfare Society of Oak Park and River Forest, to fund a clinic for underserved children in the Austin neighborhood of Chicago.

After her husband's illness and death in 2001, Anne moved to St. Charles and became guardian of her granddaughter, Colleen Brink, adopting her as her legal daughter a few years later. Anne thrived in the St. Charles and Geneva area, becoming involved with book clubs, volunteer groups, and in recent years, the Unitarian Universalist Society of Geneva (UUSG), where she found a vibrant, warm, caring community, and had many opportunities to share her generous gifts with others. Anne fought a four-month battle with liver cancer with much courage and grace.

She is survived by her children, Colleen Brink, Dave (Becky) Brink, Sarah Brink-Kemmerling, and Susan (Sean) Brink Hardy; eight grandchildren, Samantha, Andrea, Nora, Aidan, Mary, Joseph, Max, and Mia; brothers, John, Mark, and Matthew Southard; and four nieces and a nephew, Shawna, Katie, Melissa, Kate, and Steve).

She is preceded in death by her husband, John David Brink; and her brother, William Southard.

The memorial service was held at UUSG in Geneva, IL on November 13, 2017. Anne's cremated remains will be interred next May under a stone dedicated to her in the UUSG's Sanctuary Garden during Memorial Day weekend 2018.

If interested, the family is grateful for donations in Anne's honor to Lazarus House of St. Charles or your local homeless shelter.
