Delbert "Chet" Chidester Obituary
Died: Aug. 8, 2012

BATAVIA – Delbert "Chet" Chidester, 86, of Batavia, passed at his home Aug. 8, 2012. He was born on the family farm in Albia, Iowa.

He married his wife of 65 years, Bettie, in 1947, in Ottumwa, Iowa. This union was blessed by five children, Bill (Mary), Jane, Bob (deceased 1996), Joan and Jim (Cheryl); 16 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; one brother, Albert (Pat); and numerous nieces and nephews.

Chet loved life. He had many interests. He was an inventor, heavy equipment operator, water taper, woodworker, carpenter, plumber, gardener, bowler, pinewood derby builder, "most loyal grandpa fan" at his grandson's baseball and football games and Cubs, Bulls and Bears fan.

He was a family man, taking vacations all over the United States and in later years with brother, Jr. and wife, Bev, then with the Elburn Seniors on buses.

Family and friends were always welcome with open arms at the Chidester home. Marbles (aggravation), pinochle, dominoes, tripoly, poker and blitz were some of his favorites. He was seen often sitting at the kitchen table, working on his puzzles, tanglewords and sudoku.

There was nothing Dad wouldn't do to help anyone, often putting his needs last. Family was always first and foremost on his priority list. Dad to the world, you were one person, but to us, your family … you were the world.

A celebration of Dad's life is set for 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 11, at Shannon Hall, 14 N. Van Buren St., Batavia. Flowers can be delivered to 1185 Landfield Road, Batavia.
