Dolores Ida Bockman Obituary
Dolores Ida Bockman

Born: August 11, 1922; in Chicago, IL

Died: January 21, 2018; in Las Vegas, NV

Dolores Ida Bockman, 95, died peacefully January 21, 2018 in Las Vegas, NV.

Born August 11, 1922 in Chicago, IL to Gertrude and Edwin Smith, Dolores was proud to be the oldest of nine children and grew up in Glen Ellyn, Lombard, and Batavia, IL. Following her graduation from Immaculate Conception High School, she attended St. Joseph Nursing School in Aurora, IL, and married George Bernard Bockman September 18, 1941, who joined the military serving in WWII. Dolores treasured the joys and challenges of being an Air Force wife and mother of four children while living in Texas, Kansas, Louisiana, and Virginia, as well as enjoying two tours of duty in England. She was honored at Barksdale AFB as "Queen for a Day" acknowledging her outstanding service and qualities as a non-commissioned officer's wife.

She deeply loved her family and friends, opening her home to everyone, and rarely encountered a person with whom she couldn't initiate a dynamic conversation. Dolores was active in her Roman Catholic faith and an avid seeker of spiritual truth and the love of God. Bible studies and Christian retreats assisted her in sharing her faith with others. She enjoyed homemaking, sewing, traveling, entertaining, and participating in a multitude of volunteer and social/service groups throughout her life. Her work included such positions as nursing assistant, supervisor and seamstress for a dry cleaning establishment, Teen Club Director and a breeder of poodles. Always ready for fun and action, Dolores loved shopping and stylish clothes, gardening, learning how to play golf at 80, sampling wine and cheese, doing crossword puzzles, and most of all, visiting family. After retirement from the military Dolores and her husband lived in Virginia, Florida and North Carolina. Ultimately Dolores lived in Nevada with her daughter, and at Blue Sky Memory Care.

She is preceded in death by her parents; sister, Gertrude; brothers, Edwin Jr., Paul and John; her husband, George; her sons, George Jr. and Richard; and son-in-law, Chuck.

Dolores is succeeded by her daughters, Susan and Nadia (Tim); her daughter-in-law, Jean; grandchildren, Shawn (David), Margaret (Michael), Richard (Amy), Amber, and Cody. Her great grandchildren include Stephanie, Elizabeth, Catherine, Nicholas, Benjamin, Ashley, Tyler and Taylor. Her living sisters are Elizabeth, Joan and Merita; and her brother, Robert (Janice). Dolores has numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

A funeral mass will be held Friday, Feb. 2nd at Holy Cross Church, 2300 Main St., Batavia, IL. 60510 at 4:00PM and immediately followed by a Celebration of Life for Dolores at Tribella Restaurant. Visitation will be held 10:00 AM Saturday, Feb 3rd at Moss Funeral Home, 209 S. Batavia Ave. Batavia, IL. 60510. Burial service is at 11:00 AM at Resurrection Cemetery, Geneva, followed by a reception at the O'Connell's home.
