Donald L. Cunningham, 86, of Palm Harbor, FL, (formerly of St. Charles, IL), passed away August 5, 2018 accompanied by loved ones at Mease Countryside Hospital.

He was born May 20, 1932, the son of Charles W. Cunningham, Jr. and Pearl (Otto) Cunningham in Mason City, Iowa. He graduated from Cornell College in Mt. Vernon, Iowa where he played football, basketball and baseball. He was accepted to ROTC training while in college and served in the Army including two years in Germany. After settling in Wheaton, Illinois he was the Vice-Principal and Athletic Director at Hillside School. He earned his master's degree from the University of Northern Illinois. He was a member of the St. Charles Rotary and in June 1993 achieved Paul Harris Fellow recognition. His part-time job selling insurance led to another full-time career building his own agency with Franklin Life and in 1992 was awarded Manager of the Year and the prestigious Centurion Award.

Donald had many friends and loved to entertain. He hosted an annual golf outing on his own 3-hole course he painstakingly maintained. He enjoyed fishing, boating and all forms of sports. He was a natural leader whose motto was Set Your Goals in Life, Plan Your Work Then Work Your Plan.

In addition to his parents, Donald was preceded in death by his first wife, Patricia (Learn); his daughter, Debra Terlep; his second wife, Melva "Tindy" (Meyers); and many aunts, uncles & cousins.

He left his family with many cherished memories of time spent together, and will be sadly missed by his wife, Mary Ann Christian-Hough; sister, Doris Jorgensen; daughters, Susan Anderson, Sandy Oury & Kathleen Lawrence; 13 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; many cousins, nephews, nieces and countless other loved ones including Chris Van Overloop and Mary Sue Hadden.

A service is planned on October 26, 2018 at 2:30 p.m. at the Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, IL which will be live streamed on You Tube. Please write to [email protected] for viewing details. Additionally, a celebration of life will be held on November 20, 2018 in Clearwater, FL.
